Would Kobe beat Pierce 1 on 1? Yeah probably.

Who would I draft first on my team? Pierce.  

I've played against alot of guys who are great 1 on 1 players.  That doesn't make them the better player.

I think you will find that for the most part, the majority of Celtics fan would grudgingly agree that Kobe is better than Pierce (despite how much many of us hate Kobe in general).

I think it is tough to take a lot of what Pierce says seriously anyways, because he is the type of guy who is constantly joking around, and often has his tongue, firmly planted in his cheek.  In this case, I think he may have been serious, but I certainly don't think he was trying to degrade anyone...he just is a confident player.

So yeah, I completely agree that Kobe is the better player than Pierce.  Kobe is probably the best player in the league other than Lebron (and thats even debatable)...but I still would take Pierce over Kobe 10 times out of 10 as a fan, because he is so much more likable IMO.

I'll keep my blinders on thanks, and be safe in the knowledge that Paul is indeed a better team basketball player than Kobe.  Kobe's better at jacking up 3's when he kept out the lane.  I will also say that DA would never trade Paul straight up for Kobe and why would he?  What the heck has Kobe Bryant done that Paul can't do and do without the horrible personality.  Gotta love the kobekids and the Boston fans that still don't understand what they have in Paul Pierce.

I think Kobe is a better player than Paul.  He's certainly more talented.

I think Paul outperformed Kobe in the playoffs, but Kobe has more of a track record of doing more with less.

I would much rather have Paul on my team, though.  He's a better person, and a better teammate.

If I'm not mistaken Kobe has never made it out of first round without shaq except this past season when Paul outplayed him anyway.  Please explain to me how that is better than Boston going to ECF in 2002 with Tony Battie at Starting center.  I'm going to have to disagree with the premise that Kobe has done more with less.  In fact IMO it's just opposite.

As Celtic fans you are allowed some bragging rights for your accomplishment in winning the Finals and beating the Lakers.  Trash talking is part of the game.  I am sure Phil Jackson and the Lakers would be doing the same if the Lakers would have won the title.  BUT C'mon!  Pierce better than Kobe?.lol! I am sure that you (Celtics Fans) have to naturally come to the defense of Pierce and your team. But that is just ridiculous.

I like the point of view of Celtic fans who agree that since Pierce just won the title that he should be able to say that.  But that also depends on the comment(s).  But I do have to ask, where was Pierce before that?  If that is the case, why isn't he on the Olympic team?  He is not even good enough to come off the bench on that team.  Also, please stop saying that he is a best all around player.  HE IS NOT!  One year of winning the title and all of a sudden he is this good?  Why weren't Celtic fans making this argument before?  The years that both Paul and Kobe have had sub-par team mates which player has lead their team further?  By the way, let me remind you that Kobe plays in the West!

The biggest difference and the biggest reason why the Celtics won is because of KG which by the way, was the anchor of the defense.  It was team defense that stopped Kobe not Pierce..lol.  How can you guys say that Pierce stopped Kobe? Since we are on the subject of KG.  Let me just say this.  Pierce, KG and Allen each were leaders of their own team and were not able to lead a team anywhere.  So if each of them were the leaders on last years Lakers team none of them would be able to take them (lead them) as far as Kobe has & did.  There is no reason to think otherwise because up until last year they needed each other to accomplish what Kobe did which was take a team to the Finals.  So, dont tell me that Pierce is better than Kobe. 

Finally, we all have to give credit where credit is due and say that the Celtics were the best team in the league an you deserve your credit.  But, if you are a true basketball fan, you have to admit Kobe's greatness and compare his resume to Pierce's and it's almost laughable.  So, if you dont want to give credit to Kobe for winning titles because he had Shaq, then you can't give credit to Pierce because he has Allen and KG. 

Ridiculous.

1) Pierce's comments have been misconstrued and sampled out of context by just about everyone out there. Clearly he's saying "Its my mentality to believe I'm the best player." He alludes its a confidence thing, and if anyone bothered to read the entire interview, and bring a little subtlety into it, its a phony pr answer. It held about as much actual opinion and weight as a cup full of air. Thank god we have fans, commentators and bloggers to blow things way way way out of proportion.

2) Pierce was asked to the US Men's team, as was KG..they both declined. Know your facts.

3) Lamar Odom is better than any other Celtic Pierce has ever played with. (Not speaking for the board, just my opinion) Kobe has never in his life had a worse team than Paul Pierce, until this year.

4) The Celtics won the 2008 NBA title in six games, Paul Pierce is the Finals MVP. Believe the Hype.

Oh, and FTW:

Pierce may not be better than Kobe, but in my opinion, Lebron is.  Kobe showed vs. Boston that he doesn't have much of an ability to drive and finish - he's just not strong enough.  Lebron can do that till the cows come home.  Lebron took a less talented group of guys to a tight 7th game vs. Boston whereas Kobe's more talented team got blown out in 6. 

Kobe is still more clutch than Lebron ... there's nobody better at taking that last shot than Kobe, but Lebron is a better passer, rebounder, and can get to the hole.  And, he's younger. 

The same offense that you are taking to Pierce saying he's the best, I take to Kobe's "best player on the planet" label.
