ESPN saying the deal is dead due to the Marlins wanting more prospects. Kind of absurd after the Sox would've have been paying all of Manny's salary.

good. now let's go get some pitching help.

If they can get Bay without parting with a top 5 prospect, I'm actaually liking this deal alot. Given Bay's modest salary through '09, this gives the 'Sox the flexibility to

1 Go after an FA this year, next, or just resign Bay. I mean at any position. And

2 Wait another year to see what they have in Reddick. As either Bay's replacement or trade bait. I'm not optimistic about Reddick ever developing into a middle of the order slugger, but if he can give us good value in LF for 6 years and we can sink our money into another position of need down the road.....well I 'm getting ahead of myself here.....

I still have higher hopes for Lars Anderson as that middle of the order slugger. Would be great if he could develop into a Justin Morneau type with a slightly higher K rate.

If the Sox trade for Bay I'd be surprised if they don't resign him to a deal after next season and use Reddick as trade bait.

This trade works out if the Sox plan on using Manny's money and taking a run at Sabathia.

Sabbathia was exactly who I had in mind when I posted the part about the flexibility. If I was to pick one big name in the next few years FA class's, I'd definitely choose him over Teixeira or Holliday, then take my chances in Left. I wonder if there's an actual budget; for instance, if the Sox go after Sabbathia then they don't extend Bay for big money the year after.

Beckett
Sabathia
Lester
Matsuzaka
Buchholz

That's just not fair.

i actually am not a huge Sabathia guy.....especially after he absolutely blew up against us in the ALCS last year.....if had pitched decently the Tribe would have made the WS series...

i'd rather see where Schilling is after the surgery. my bet is he is not done yet.

the problem once again is our front office......after not letting him get proper treatment on his arm in Feb, i'm not sure he will have much interest in coming back.

What a crazy 24 hours. Watch Manny get the World Series MVP for the Sox this year- if we can make it to the playoffs...

There was even garbage out there saying we would waiver wire him again...that is nutz...

Schilling might cost you half as much but he's only going to give you 25% of what Sabathia will. Sabathia is a much better investment for the Red Sox.

I hate to say it, but Schilling is done.

Red Sox are talking to the Dodgers about Manny. SI says the Dodgers are offering Andre Ethier and the Red Sox want Matt Kemp.

Also there's still speculation the Marlins deal isn't completely dead.

just trade him for prospects at this point

can do that in 2 months and still possably make the playoffs. rather not conceed the season, as tempting as this reported prospect trade the dodgers want to do is

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/baseball/mlb/07/31/manny.sweepstakes/index.html?eref=T1

Andre Ethier? Straight up for Manny?

like if you can do the bay deal, fine, thats acceptable, as is the kemp deal if you don't have to give up an established prospect, but why do the above deal?

clearly what we need is another outfielder with no power. Then we can trot out 3 guys who COMBINED might hit 20HR’s. that will be sweet.

Fear the power of crisp, jacoby, and this moron. Nancy drew would be happy though, these three would make him look like babe ruth in right.

No way the Sox do the deal unless they get Matt Kemp back.

This will get done with the Sox getting Kemp - I love Manny but it would be a good return.

Im a huge Kemp fan, he's got it all and would be a solid addition longterm. It would be tough to see Manny go, but getting a young player like Kemp would be worth it.

I tried not thinking about this and putting it off, but as long as the Sox aren't desperate in their attempts to move Manny (Giving up all that cash and those propects) then they should probably just move on. The team might miss the playoffs this year, but Manny is just too much right now, and is being so disrespectful to the organization that not even David Ortiz can defend him now.
