hopefully something was lost in translation there, cuz yeah that's dumb - Kobe almost did it basically on his own. Lebron almost did it basically on his own - Pierce did it with a little help from his friends - now are PP, KG and RA the best 3some in the NBA - heck yes

though TMAC, Yao and Artest... that's scary

I have no problem with Pierce saying he is the best right now because he is quite frankly he & and the C's just won the title. I am also tired of people saying that Kobe is or has done things by himself. He has always had decent to great talent around him & Paul hasn't always. And when Kobe did have lack luster teams around him, they missed the playoffs one year & got bounced from the playoffs quick in others post Shaq. And Lebron was out shined by Paul in the crucial game 7 this year which gives Paul the edge. Regular season stats mean nothing to me because if Paul hogged the ball & shot 32 times a game like those guys he would average 30-35 pts. a game also because he gets to the foul line ALOT & shoots a high percentage most times.

If he is serious about this claim he just proved he isn“t the brightest guy in the world! This is just plain stupid!

i doubt that paul was being serious, pierce likes to joke around and im sure it was a joke that possibly got lost in translation or a reporter probably decided to twist the story a little bit just to sell some news

This was said in spanish MARCA a week ago
he said he is the best
and he also said that it wasnt a thing of  not being modest
I agree
And personally think ure doing a big thing out of nothing
ANY proffesional athlete in the woorld should consider himself the best and try to prove it every single time
thats the nature of the sport man
and if youre close u have to prove ure

From the 7th game in the Cavs series to the last game of the Finals, Pierce was the best.

  • This year
What time of year is it? Dead time. Some "journalist" decided to create some controversy. He probably is close to losing his job, so he decided to twist some funny remark Pierce made. His team certainly is the best in the world, right this moment, and he is the captain of this team, so it's easy for someone to write this. I'm sure this is going to upset the other greatest players in the world, but, for the first time in his career, he has bragging rights. Have fun this summer Paul, Back to work in a month or so, and then the standings are 0-0. Brand new season. Can you imagine what it has been for him for the last 10 years? Can you imagine how bad his trash talk is going to be this year?

I think it's probably a bad

journalist. Well, whatever.

I'd take Kandi over GG and Blount any day of the week... and twice on Sunday

If you match up numbers between lebron and pierce, they're very similar. difference is that pierce shoots the ball when lebron just uses his freakish body to get to the hole. as for kobe and pierce i matched them up too but i forget the numbers but im pretty sure kobe had an edge on pierce. but in my opinon (and i know im not going to be backed on this much) steve nash is the best player in the nba. pierce #2 of course.

Wow, Paul Pierce sure knows how to start a controversy. I understand how Pierce came about to claiming he's the best player. He just beat Kobe Bryant, the regular season MVP, handily in the Finals so in his book, that makes him the best player for now. Winning the Finals MVP trophy also validates his claim. But for him to say that, though I doubt he was really serious when he made that statement, was a little reckless and arrogant on his part. I'm a big Paul Pierce fan but the man's gotta know when to stop making comments like these. We all know the Truth ruled the Finals but let's leave the talking on the court. If you want to be respected by everybody, you should avoid making statements of this nature.

With that said, I also can understand where the Laker fans are coming from. They just had their butts handed back to them in the Finals and they're still very sore at us because of it. Pierce making this statement is like rubbing salt in their still fresh wounds. Let's give them the benefit of having the "best player" in the league (as evidenced by Bryant's MVP award). But I'll take a ring over an individual award everyday of the week, twice on Sundays.  :)

Reading it in spanish, it doesn't sound exactly that way. He's just saying that considering himself the best is an expression of self-confidence;:he even ads that he's not being arrogant. It's the same reason he lists 5 Celtics players as his favourites in the NBA. IMO, it's a quite standard statement.
