The Orlando Magics** have 2 of the best passing big men in the game right now (Milller leads all centers in assists) and 2 of the top 17 bigs in terms of Efficiency ratings -- none of the teams you listed below has that, nor do the vaunted Blazers

Eh...  Efficiency is a bit overrated, don't you think?  (Also, I'm not sure where you're getting your numbers from.  Are you talking about PER?  Because that's different than Efficiency.  In terms of Efficiency, Brad Miller was #32.

Link.

I just think Miller is starting to show his age, and I'm not in love with him as a player.

I do agree, though, that nobody should make any conclusions about rosters until the end of the draft.  My assessment was just a snapshot of where teams stand right now.

EDIT:  You're not talking about PER, either, because Miller ranked #77 there, according to Hollinger.

EDIT 2:  Ah...  big man efficiency ratings.  Well, I'm sure we'll be seeing Horford over Miller in that particular category this year.

Roy, you're right Bmiller is #32 of all players, but i was talking "BIGS" where he is 17th... and my general point was that Duncan + Miller together will be highly efficient, if not as dynamic as some other big duos -- i'm sure we'll be debating similar tandems at other positions (i.e. fit vs. overall talent) ..... Personally i've always liked Miller's game, it's liek a very poor man's Duncan... .passing, solid rebounding, defense.

And right, i know you're just giving a snapshot --- and believe me am honored to be in your HM category  :D  It's a fun exercise!

Just saw your edit #2... i agree Horford will be there this year... i was hoping that he'd slip to me at #21 in the 2nd... :-\

That is a new one...

His rep as being overrated actually made him underrated.  Sounds like a Yogi-ism

plus, since were doing the fictional writeups, you can always pretend that:

1. its a contract year for vince, so he's actually motivated.

2. he isn't made of glass injury wise.

he'll be unstoppable :)

  • The good ole days.

Minnesota Timberwolves:  Any team with Lebron is automatically top-tier.  However, I'm not sure Jose Calderon is the best fit for that team.  He's a wonderful point guard, who would be perfect on a lot of teams.  However, he needs the ball in his hands, and that won't happen with Lebron on the roster.  He's going to be relegated to a spot up shooter, which is a waste of Calderon's considerable talents.  The Biedrins pick was a very good one, if he continues to develop towards his potential.

Thanks for the honorable mention, and here was my thinking behind these picks.  To me, getting the ball out of LeBron's hands is not a bad thing.  Yes, he's great with the ball, he's a great passer, and it's impossible to stop his penetration... but if you pair a bit of that with a bit of him working off the ball, I think he becomes even more dangerous.  For as hard as he is to stop with the ball, he's even harder to stay with off the ball.  He is too fast, quick, and strong to hang with... he could run around screens and curls all game long, get separation, get the ball with space, and force help to collapse and foul, while leaving Andris Biedrins (best FG% in the league) or my TBD PF open at the basket.  Calderon is a deft enough passer to get LeBron these touches without having to take the ball out of LeBron's hands too often.  Also, as far as spot up shooters go, there are few better.  Calderon is extremely efficient with the ball and would make LeBron's life easier.  As far as Biedrins, it was easy.  He's 22 and is already one of the best rebounders and most efficient scorers around the basket, and in his old system he rarely had a play run for him.  He's also one of the most underrated centers in the game if you go off of PER, Wages of Wins, or Roland Ratings (I don't give 100% faith to them, but when all 3 major sabermetric players say he's underrated, I listen).

I think these are two perfect complements to put around LeBron for where I was drafting.  I think it's already a much better supporting cast than he's had at anytime in Cleveland, and he took those guys to the finals... so I like what he can do for me.

"the underrated Vince Carter" - Roy Hobbs

That is a new one...

Underrated on Celticsblog.

So underrated that wdleehi felt Rasheed Wallace was worth DRASTICALLY more than Vince Carter and Josh Howard combined.

That's pretty underrated...
