meh...i know everyone is all over roys team and all but i still say there are way too many cooks in the kitchen for that group to work as a unit. trying to pigeon would be stars into dirty work roles usually doesnt work when you have that many of them. isiah just tried to do that and it failed. no to mention there arent really any floor spacers on that team. they can run like gazelles but once the playoffs hit and theyre forced to play halfcourt that team would run into problems on offense.
No floor spacers? everyone in that starting lineup can knock down jumpers - martin and parker can shoot from deep while wallace and odom can step back on occasion as well.
I like this team because the second unit can compete with a lot of first units out there. They will give up a lot of points on occasion and they don't have a cold-blooded assasin, but in an 82 game season this team would roll because they could rest the hell out of anyone who needed it.
sorry jgod. i wasnt referring to your team. i was referring to the squad roy hobbs put together that everyone seems to have anointed.
See, but you're just wrong.
Rudy Gay has a nice jump shot. Iguodala does. Horford certainly does. Amare's is getting better. Ford's has improved. Webster has one of the best jumpers of any young player in the league. Blake is a certifiable bomber.
No floor spacers? I guess I don't have Ray Allen on my team, but other than that, I'm pretty happy with their ability to shoot from outside.
Also, as I've stated numerous times, the guys I have drafted all fit within a team concept. People have this idea in their heads that Rudy Gay has to be "the man". Same with Horford. Same with Iguodala, or Ford, or whoever else. Every player on my team has been surrounded with players that have gotten more attention than them early in their careers, and not a one of them has complained about their role.
I *didn't* draft just based upon talent. I drafted for "fit", and "role". The *only* guy I didn't draft to fit a specific role on my team was Brandan Wright, and that's because I felt like gambling with the 9th slot on my roster. Other than that, it's a team that's put together mindful of all the criticisms you and others are making.
If Michael Beasley was on my team, please, criticize me. If I drafted Ron Artest, or Josh Howard, or Zach Randolph, please, aim your "talent over role players" gun at me. But people who criticize Rudy Gay for being selfish don't know what they're talking about. People who thinks Al Horford wants to be "the man" are sadly misinformed. That applies to every play on my roster, with the *possible* exception of Amare (who will, indeed, be "the man" on my team, so I don't see a problem).
Again, I love the "you have too much talent" argument. Didn't people say that about the Celtics this year? Heck, didn't they say that about the Lakers and Celtics in the 1980s? Those teams worked out okay, and so will mine.
