I had a very similar idea on a way to crown a champ. Have people vote for their conference rankings, giving 16pts to a 1st place vote down to 1pt for a 16th place vote.  The 8 teams that have the top 8 points will be in the playoffs for seeding.

However, I think their should be votes on who would win each division (but teams don't vote on their own division) to get the top 3 seeds, then have people vote for the best teams from the 12 remaining from each conference.  Then continue voting who would win each series until we're down to a champ.

The only thing that tips the scales to the Sixers, in my opinion, is the addition of Haywood. I agree that he is an underrated center, and when you're trading PG's of equal ability and SF of comparative ability (and similar lunacy) then Haywood makes this a great deal for the Sixers.

From experience, people get pretty bored with this draft after its concluded.  Last year we did little write ups for each team, one per day.  We made it about 8 or 9 days before people lost interest and gave up entirely.

My point, I guess, is that if people want to crown a "winner" or multiple "winners" in various categories, it should be able to be wrapped up quickly upon conclusion of the draft.  Anything that requires the participation of all 30 GMs, and multiple rounds of voting, likely isn't going to work as well as it looks on paper.

Still, if people want to attempt to prove that last year was an aberation, and want to give the above suggestion a try, I'm on board.

I think it sounds fun in lieu of a NBA video game sim. Actually it would pretty cool along with one.

Valuable insight Roy... but i'm wiling to give it a shot if others are game --- heck someone just posted win totals (!) in another thread.

And wannig participation was the reason i thought maybe we could see if Steve wanted try an tie-in with his portion of the site .... maybe get some other CBlog readers in on the voting...  Dog days will continue 'round here into Ocotber right?

I'd say maybe have each division submit their write ups at one time -- or 1 division per conference (mon, tues, wed) then rankings due by Friday. something like that...

They can be included.  wdleehi just doesn't consider them as having any value when determining whether a trade should be vetoed.
