I don't expect Pruitt to play next season. Hopefully he'll be kept around the team (not NBDL) but I see him firmly as the third string point guard and not getting time as a shooting guard. I'd be surprised if he gets much time next year.
I don't know if he can defend shooting guards. Haven't seen him defend shooting guards. I'm doubtful because his frame doesn't look that strong but down the road he could be able to.
I'd be shocked if what your saying here comes to pass, givin how much there playing him up in the press from inside the celtics organization and how high they've been on him all last year. I think he's going to get a chance to be the backup PG with some burn at SG.
This i belive is why they resigned eddie. They know that if gabe gets in trouble at point, they can just have eddie do it. this also explains what to me was a lackluster intrest in the backup PG market.
I'm not saying what you are suggesting won't happen, espically if gabe doesn't live up to thier expectations, but no way is he just a 2 minute a night guy next eyar to start. They think he can crack the roatation from all accounts, and i expect them to give him his chance. We'll see what he does with it. i'm catiously optomistic he can give us 5-10 minutes a night off the bench.
Would you expect them to downplay him the media and say he sucks? Of course not. They're trying to play him up as to drive up his value in case he's ever needed in part of a trade. That said, I think there's very little evidence to say anything about him. He did well in the D-League, but so do a lot of players who can't cut it in the NBA. While Danny's had good luck in the second round, when it comes down to it, most second rounders don't stick in the NBA.
If he's going to play, he's going to need to play very well. As it is, he's going to have to fight very hard for minutes as all of our point guards and "swingmen" are undersized. It'd be one thing if we re-signed Posey and let Allen go, but as it is now, Allen's better off playing the 2 than the 3. Factor that in with Ray's minutes, and I don't see a heck of a lot of opportunity for Pruitt.
no, but i would expect they wouldn't bring his name up everytime people ask them abotu the depth chart. I think they think he can play, and i fully expect them to give him a shot this year to crack the rotation.
Listen, im not saying they think he's going to suddenly be a 6th man, but i think to say, as who did, that there going to keep him around to ride the end of the bench isn't true. He may end up there, or he may not. but i fully expect him to get the chance to earn some minutes.
What will he do with that chance? who knows, as you've pointed out, he's had very little burn at the nba level, and of course some guys look liek stars in the NBDL and then flame out. But you have to throw the kid in the pool at some point, and i just think that the organization thinks he's ready, and are going to role with him for a bit.
To me, this is why thier was ZERO serious intrest in a true back up PG. They don't see it as a need. They have house and TA, which they clearly think is good enough to take the backup minutes if pruitt doesn't work out.
I'm not calling him a success right off the bat, but on the flip side, i don't get people that are calling him a failure because we haven't seen him at the NBA level yet. at some point, everyone has no experiance.
Time for gabe to have his trial by fire, just like everyone else.
