ESPN rumors

Quote
The Timberwolves reached agreement Monday on a multi-year contract with unrestricted free agent Sebastian Telfair, his agent said.

"We're very excited for the opportunity to finish what we started," agent Andy Miller said. "Sebastian wants to help get this team back to the playoffs." -- Minneapolis Star Tribune

Yeah boyyyy....You guys can pull for Gerald Green all you want..as far as cheering for disappointing draft picks that played for the Boston Celtics, Im all telfair. Go Bassy, prove Randy Foye stinks.

good for bassy, he showed improvment this year, and hopefully he continues.

Good for him. Do the 'Wolves really believe Foye is a PG?

The title of the thread sounds like eayore is exhasperated by Telfair getting a contract.  I don't know why.

Telfair is undersized and was way overhyped.  He has gotten progressively better.  Telfair seemed to be a good teammate while Rivers was jacking him around.  He played pretty well for Minnesota.  I'm glad for him.

  • Yup
Seems like just yesterday the Celts were using him in ads to promote the team.  Those ones with a silent Lucky were kinda funny (was it Lucky or a shamrock, I'm hazy on it)

Hope he makes good on it.
Yup

Not eligible until 2010

That's not accurate. Rubio can declare this season

Rubio is #1 on DX's 2009 draft board.  As Brick as correctly stated, he's a franchise player: a potential Chris Paul or even better.

No, Sodbuster, I'm not exasperated; I'm just thinking of why McHale would have made the move, and my conclusion is that signing Telfailure is like having a speed-limiter on a rental truck: something to make sure that the good young nucleus 'Sota is developing doesn't wreck their chances of getting one of the last pieces of the puzzle they need--a solid young PG, which players go high in the lottery when available--by having too good of a record too soon, namely, this season.

IP- Actually I am pretty happy about this. He'll get a chance to improve on last season in Minny, and its not like they've upgraded the point. He was dangerously close to being a 3rd string pg at the min or going overseas.

Bassy was one of the best point guards left on the market. Good to see him get a contract.

Not sure Minny is the best place for him. I was hoping Toronto would sign him to backup Calderon. Telfair is going to have to turn himself into a high level shooter and defender to earn that job long term in Minnesota. I'm thinking we'll see him get traded before his contract ends.

Can you ever post without criticizing Doc Rivers?  Did he marry a Clinton or something?  Bassy did the same thing here in Boston that he did in Portland - start the year decently, and then fall off as the year unfolded.  He lost minutes to a rookie PG who is obviously a lot better than him.

I wrote a long time ago that it would take five years to properly evaluate a HS-to-NBA PG like Bassy.  One of the things that I thought Bassy would be good at, getting to the rim and drawing fouls with his dribbling ability and quickness, he's lousy at.  Telfair averaged a paltry one FT per 19 minutes last season.  He converted only 45% of his layup attempt, and made only one layup every 20 minutes.

thats a little harsh, did you see bassy play this year, particualry the second half? he looked very good in stretchs, and he came stright out of HS, so its not like hes 27 and he has no shot to get better. i mean, he's not going to be chris paul, but he isn't a terrable PG, and he showed marked improvment last year with consistant playing time. I think he'll be a good PG for them, to be honest. They have the ability to do what we did with rondo next year, make him the starter and have him defer to others (big al, love). him and al already seem to have a good vibe on the pick and roll. he had some outstanding games in the second half.

I'm not saying he'll have a rondo explosion, or that he's anywhere near rajon's level, but he's not mark blount in a PG's body, the kid can play.

I think eventualy he'll settle into some teams plans as a 6th or 7th man.

;D OT, thanks for the laugh.  I wouldn't wish that on Rivers.  He seems like a nice guy.

Sorry, Rivers' "coaching" of these young players deserves more than critisism.  They deserved better than Rivers.  For the two seasons that this was primarily a young team...And the season previous to that, there was no defensive concept in place.  Let alone a system.  Yet all Rivers did was criticize the defense.  HELLO, Doc??  Are you there???  Rivers sounded like a disgruntled fan in his postgame interviews...Sounded like a commentator in his pregame interviews.    Who's in charge??

Concerning Telfair, he played solid basketball for Minnesota.  He played decent defense most of the time.  I'm not surprised he got a contract.

Still sticking to that story, huh?

You still blame Doc for Gerald?

Do we have archives of celticsblog to dig up old posts? It would be fun to read bold proclamations of Doc haters from 2006-2007 and last preseason.

It hilarious to hear fans complain about players developing after they leave a team -- duh! Young players continue to develop. Or other clowns who complain "Why wasn't Pruitt (for example) given more PT", then when he plays well 2 years from now people will say "I told you we should have played him more 2 years ago!
