  • all hail garfield-sama!
First of all, Marbury has a team already. Plus we have 2 definite PG and 2 combo guards. And the Knicks won't giveaway Marbury for FREE!
Second, you guys act like BirdMan is the "Chosen One" and he's not. What about if he relapses? Too Risky!
Third with Miles, can we risk a roster spot for a guy with two bad knees, and a guy who's a problem child. No Sir!

i'm intrigued, who is our definte backup PG?

I hope he doesn't mean Pruitt...

I really believe Pruitt can handle it. He deserves his minutes this year. We were romping and stomping last season with House as backup PG. Let's give Pruitt his chance this year. If it won't work, we can always spend the MLE on somebody once the season unfolds or during February madness..  ;D  :o  ;D

With all due respect, I'm having trouble figuring out if this is another satire thread...kind of hoping it is and that I just missed the 'rub' of the joke...

TP. Except, I'm not laughing.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

SteveW:  I smoked and injected lot's of drugs...not really...but it makes me feel better to claim this - I have no idea what I'm talking about - Eddie House is a West Coast product through and through - I admit I was stereotyping his 'posture', he carries himself like the type of New Yorkers I've known and played hoops with over the years - just how he speaks and even his game style.  Oh well, lesson to all - sterotypes can often completely mislead us.
As for Marbury, I was assuming based on your first comment that he was similar to Telfair's New York Heritage - but what I know of him, and why I suggested in this thread's title (not without a bit of wink wink) that Marbury be added to the Celts roster, is because at least once upon a time (as you factually reminded us) he was a legit scorer who could take over the game and be a good upgrade over Sam Cassell (though Sam's selfish Shoot-First Assist-Later PG style might also be upgraded and squared).

The thing is, I guess there are a few elements to a stereotype NY'r:
1)SOMETIMES there is legit hype (Marbury) and sometimes there is overhype (Telfair) and this is in a 'local' way tied into the borough they come out of.
2)Their general posture, way of walking, a calm coolness with a bit of exaggerated style
3)Their accented way of speaking in a similar way to how I described their posture.
4)EGO (or shall I say 'confidence') - need I say more - and let me add, not necessarily a bad thing when trying to be the best among the best at something.
5)Representing: i.e. NY'rs are self-conscious of their origin and place in the world, i.e. New Yorker's typically view their own place in the world, and the rest of the world, in terms of New York - i.e. it's a NY World and everyone else is just passing through it; and attribute their success as tied into and amplifying the 'grandness' of their borough and NY more generally.

cheers and minus a TP from me (Hey, I'm an ignorant Bostonian who has no clue of the real world outside of Massachusetts - as some would say a Dirt Dawg, as others would say a mA**hole!)

the thing is though, gabe played the 2 in collage mostly, and projects that way in the NBA. it's not a question of handling it, its a question of not being comfortable there.

Now that the team is shaping up, with the signing up of House and TA, I think this team would be completed by bringing in a gamble athletic and taller than Powe or Big Baby PF, such as Darius Miles (6'9 222lb) or Birdman Anderson (6'10 228lb).  To finally cap it off, I like the idea of Stephon Marbury (6'2 205lb)as a back up pointgaurd/perimter scorer running the offense when Rondo is out or if Rondo gets banged up.

With that I think this would be a solid team, minus Posey and most likely minus P.J.Brown, compensated for in different but nice ways with a veteran (if he can prove he's not an idiot) to back up Rondo (who deserves the ball much more the S.Cassell did!!!) and truly run the secondary (and great insurance if Rondo is out with an injury); and Birdman/Miles would lack the smooth class of P.J.Brown - the ultimate vet - but they'd bring (if functioning at something of what they once were) an electricity even if eratic that as I say, won't equal, but I think will in it's own different way adequately compensate for the loss of P.J.Brown.

Of course - nothing can replace the CLUTCH that both Posey and Brown demonstrated in the Playoffs, but Marbury has shown some clutch in his career, and well - P.J. Brown's most CLUTCH role in the playoffs was solid blocking out and rebounding, even if his 'clutch shooting' got the notice, let's be realistic about how much he scored in the playoffs - not taking anything away from P.J., but he wasn't some monster scoring machine, he just hit the shot when he needed to on the biggest stage - there is no reason to suggest someone else can't make up for the loss of PJ offensively - he wasn't the center of the offense ever, he just got the ball on rotation and put it in - same as Posey.  I don't think Marbury has proven to be clutch as Posey has - but has Marbury ever been on the BIG STAGE and had the chance?  He's in the regular season his some clutch shots in his career.

Sounds good to me! I don't know why so many people here are so down on the idea of signing Marbury. Apparently if a player isn't "young" and in the "developmental" stage, Bostons fans don't want any part of him.

let me give it a try!

1. Likes to take advantage of interns, who according to testomny almost called the cops, in the back of SUV's, mabey we can get him here in time to run the new celtics girls through thier paces.

2. Threatens his coach with blackmail when his playing time is cut, sounds like a good canadiate to be happy backing up a 22 year old  ::)

3. Not actually that good, but thinks he's nails, this contributes to him not being a good backup choice. nothign says malcontent like above average players who think thier MJ who are on the bench.

4. Walks out on his teamates after thowing a tempur tantrum about not getting the minutes he wants on the team plane , again, sweet choice for a backup.

5. comes back into the fold, then Is nothing but a distraction, disappearing from the team for long stretchs with no explinations. i don't care if it was the knicks, you don't walk out on your team like that.

6. Has stated numerous times that he still consideres himself to be a star in this league, once again shooting down any notion that he would be a good teamate and backup.

7. Drove himself out of Minn because he was jelous of KG, because he made more money.
