Tony Allen signed a two year contract, so did Eddie House. How does that affect Giddens' status? I'd always imagined him as a replacement, almost guaranteeing that TA was gone. What do you guys think?

I don't think it effects the chances of him being signed or dealt. It does effect his chances of being in the rotation next season though.

It's a good question.  I have no idea what Danny is thinking.  Backup SG seemed to be one of the positions where we'd found a passable replacement.  It certainly makes me curious about what happens with our rookies.

As of right now, we have absolutely terrible roster construction.  I mean, just really, really bad.  We have five players who are probably best suited to play shooting guard (Ray, Tony, Giddens, Pruitt, and House), only one "true" point guard, one established center, one power forward with legit size, and one experienced small forward.  Ugh.

Giddens was going to spend time in the NBDL any ways. He will be this years Gabe Pruitt.

Actually, unless we sign another experienced wing player there is no way Giddens is going to the NBDL. However, the team seems to project him at SF, so I don't see how the Allen signing affects him that much.

Where did you read that?

Giddens is 6'5".  Throwing him in there at small forward, especially as a rookie, would kill the team.  From what I've read, he's projected as a shooting guard who can play a bit of point guard if necessary.  Sure, he's a good rebounding guard, but I don't think the team would be dumb enough to try to play him at SF.

look at the roster, Celtics have 14 players with Giddens and Walker. Both will be inactive or playing for the NBDL. You can only suit up 12 players.

I think the TA signing is kind of like insurance on Giddens. It would be ideal to give Giddens minutes this year and that can be done splitting minutes with TA. If Giddens proves to be a better option than you can always trade TA as it is a 2010 expering deal and pretty cheap at just over 2 mil. If Giddens has trouble then you send him to the NBDL and you have TA there to sweep up the available minutes. Similar situation to Powe and BBD last year.

He's got a good reach, and averaged 9 boards a game in college. I think he could work at SF.

Perkins / x / O'Bryant
Garnett / Powe / Davis
Pierce / Giddens / Walker
RAllen / TAllen / Pruitt
Rondo / House / x

I don't see how the team will activate Scalabrine instead of Giddens, but you're welcome to your opinion :P

Because Scalabrine is a vet. Giddens is a rookie. Just the way it is.

I agree.  Doc has never really played rookies all that much.  And he has been known to play Scals quite a bit.  I bet when the season starts Scal gets some burn and Giddens is in the D-league.

That bench is a little scary. Where is the scoring there? House is a streaky scorer, TA is Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde, Giddens unproven and scares me as the fist SF of the bench, Powe is a great hustle guy but can't expect more than 8ppg if that form him and X - well is X.
