I like the name Barons as well. However, they'll never choose it because it too easily conjures up "Robber Baron." The pejorative irony is just too much ;):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robber_baron_(industrialist)

EDIT: The irony is less subtle than I thought - scroll down the wikipedia entry to the list of businessmen considered Robber Barons...

I proposed Robber Barons as a name for the team as soon as it was announced they were leaving.  I think it's pretty clever, but obviously it's got negative connotations.  Barons is just cool.

Well, yeah, the Barons, by itself, is a cool name. But given the circumstances and the similarity to Robber Barons, there's just no realistic chance that they'll actually go with Barons. But maybe you already concede that - your point being simply that Barons is a cool name for a franchise. I agree.

I wonder, though -- is the public at large astute enough to pick up on the connotation?  My guess would be that 85% of the public doesn't have a clue what a "robber baron" is.

Still, you're probably right, if their PR firm thinks things through.  But yes, I just like the name, nothing to do with OKC.
Your 85% figure is probably pretty realistic for the general public. However, the same won't hold true of the media - a much larger percentage of the media will not only pick up on it, but have a field day with it. Bad PR.

Anyone else excited about
the name and logos?
I hope they go with the
whole "God of Thunder/Thor"
concept.

When is the press conference?

The logo is awful. I'm very interested to see how these jerseys turn out.

I love the name but I think any second year graphic arts student could have come up with that logo. It's is just so simple, boring and predictable. Bad job on the logo.

That's a terrible logo. Worst logo in sports. What are they? The OKC Triangles?

I don't think the name is
that bad, really.
But why not go with a logo
looking like (or at least
containing elements of) this?:

That would be way more cool.

Someone actually posted the logo
in another thread but I can't
remember who did or in which thread.

if you're a Seattle Supersonics fan, how much more angry does this logo make you?
