If they decide on Bison there is no Bisons. The plural for Bison is....Bison. The name the NBA registered is Bison.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/bison

There is an extremely rare use of the word Bisons but it is rare to the point of being non-existant.

True, true.

Barons it is.

EDIT:  "Bisons" was my typo, not the NBA's,  The "Marshalls" thing, though, is still inexplicable.

Man, their name is going to so lame......

If the go with Oklahoma City Wind, people will say that they broke wind or their motto will be "Break Wind"...... or they play defense like the wind........

If they go with Thunder, then it actually night be ... Thunder thunder thundercats hooooo......

For Bisons, they should have the street fighter 2 character M. Bison as their mascot......

and lastly for Energy....... people are going to say, "I have no Energy" or they played with no energy.......

They need to go with "Oklahoma City Frontier" or "Oklahoma City Scinos" ( that's Sonics backwards )

Yeah, but what *is* a "Marshall"?  I mean, why add an extra "L"?  Presumably, it's a typo that the NBA was dumb enough to trademark.

I've been thinking about this naming thing alot.  I think they just need to grab a name and run with it.  There are a lot of names out there that probably sucked when they first came out but now they are just part of the NBA:

Heat
Nuggets
Pistons (fits, but still lame)
Pacers
Clippers
Lakers
Nets
Magic
Spurs

Those are some that are very lame, but we have embraced the names.  I left off the teams that I think will never be embraced i.e. Wizards & Raptors.

I definitely don't condone Wind, or energy, but I'm sure the rest of them will be fine after 5 or 10 years.

I take it you've seen The Fugitive or its sequel? Or any number of old Westerns, for that matter?

It is my opinion that no matter what name this franchise picked it is and will be bashed by the popular opinion due to how this franchise got started.

With complete non bias, Thunder truly isn't that bad, and is probably the best of the 5 or 6 names the NBA registered.

You missed my point, I think.

They are the U.S. Marshals.  One "L".  It was Marshal Matt Dillon.  One "L".  The trademarked name is "Marshalls".  Two "L"s.  Why?

Marshals = Law enforcement, military officers, etc.

Marshalls = Department store chain

Not that it's true but would you put it past an NBA franchise to have a tie-in that bad?

I think the "thunder" is a terrible name.  It's just so generic.  And what does Thunder have to do with Oklahoma City?  Nothing more than any other city.

Bison would be best... or the Oklahoma City Crushed Seattle Hearts.

Wait a minute, they're considering "Wind" and "Energy"?

How 'bout the "Oklahoma City Wind Energy"?  Here's their mascot:
