I think J.R. might be worth more as a trade-chip than cash. Since he is still unsigned, I think the C's can put him in a package with some other players without having to wait. I think we want Giddens more than any other team does.

Only option would have been to trade the pick and move back like 10 slots so that we would have had two early to mid 2nd rounders and we still could have gotten, say Chris Douglas-Roberts, and Bill Walker without having to guarantee either a contract.  But to outright sell the pick would have been  stupid.
