With free agency starting to dry up, does anybody think that maybe the best way to improve the team would be through a trade?  We still have some nice trade pieces and with BBD and powe filling almost the same role, do you think maybe one of them will move along with a pick to fix our needs?  Or do you think BBD and powe will both be in green next year?

We don't have a lot of flexibility here to make a trade.  If we agree to a contract with JR Giddens, could we swap him for Kyle Lowery?

There is only one trade that could help us replace the defensive stopper that was James Posey: How about a sign and trade deal involving Tony Allen and potentially BBD for Adrian Griffin?

Wow.  You would trade two contributors for just a locker room guy?  We have plenty of locker room guys.  Griffin can't really play anymore.

I don't think we'll make a trade before the season but of course you never know what will happen.

I am not terribly worried about losing Posey when we have a slew of young talent all with the potential to step it up.  No one quite replaces Posey's defense at the 3, but I could see any of Powe, BBD, TA (if signed), Pruitt, Giddens or Walker making a big splash this season.  The C's don't have to replace Posey with a carbon copy in order to repeat, they just need to make sure that there is bench balance on 'D' and a couple guys off the pine who can nail the 3 (I hope they sign House).   I see bigger roles for Powe, BBD and possibly Pruitt next  year, and if both Powe and BBD are solid, the C's may have some trade bait with one of them come mid-season.

Really? You don't think there are teams out there that would take KG?

More to the point, no one wants the bits and pieces that we want to trade (Scal, Tony, Powe, BBD.....)

Even trading KG would be tough unless you traded him straight up for another super star with a similar salary... and unless those stars names were Kobe or LeBron the C's would be insane to even consider it...
Now, on to 18...

I would prefer to not trade any of our kids for now.  I want to see what improvements Rondo, Perkins, Powe, Davis,   even Tony Allen if he comes back, has made and I would like to see what Giddens, Walker, Pruitt, and even O'Blount have to offer if they get some PT.  I'd hate to trade 50 cents on the dollar if any of these kids we are not sure of turn out to be really good.   Maybe revisit the idea of trading one of them at the midseason trading deadline if we have a real need but we have to be careful to not have another Joe Johnson type deal and trade the wrong young guy (should have been Kedrick Brown instead in that deal years ago).   I think it might be possible that Giddens could be our Stuckey this year and really help out at the SG/SF positions.   I'm high on Walker too but he is a couple years younger and may not be as ready to contribute.  With that being said we still have a chance to grab a vet or 2 via free agency Barnes ect where we don't have to trade anyone to get them.

Before I start let me issue the caveat that I'm not sure anything that anybody else wants we are willing to trade so its unlikely, but I think we do need to make a trade.

There's some redundancy (Powe or BBD) in our roster, and a guy who is not in the rotation (Scal) and I think Walker is staying so either Scal or someone else has to go between the three Ive named.  Now how and where and for who is the question. If not for one of those Clipper Camby deals I'm not sure how it happens.  I think Stefanski in Philly still likes Scal (he drafted him) problem is they only have 6 or 7 players signed to their roster (currently) and none of them are players they want to trade or players we want out of the others available.  I think Scal could also get some play in Clipper land (where he and Powe both played college ball) but the problems are similar there as well.

All this is to say I think one of those three guys needs to be traded but its unlikely that it happens....

I can definitely see a couple teams that could use the talents of Powe and BBD (Lakers being the biggest, with Orlando not far behind)but there are more that could use that kind of toughness and grit. Problem is, their salaries are so minuscule that we would have to give more than just them and I can't see too many teams that would be willing to take on Scal's as the filler.

We have no trading pieces:

Untouchables (in order);
Pierce
KG
Rondo
Allen
Perk

Young and cheap (meaning not much to get in return);
Pruitt(Possibly our backup PG)
Powe(First big man off the bench)
Davis(Nice piece but no value in return)
Giddens(No contract)
Walker (Posey replacement)

Scalabrine:
Brian Scalabrine (well theres no chance in you know what that anyones crazy enough to take on his contract til next year)

Do we still have that million dollar trade exception from last year or did it expire?  ???

My feeling is that we can keep a slot or two open and buy (up to 3 million) a player from someone who needs to trim down a roster. For instance, New Jersey has 16 guaranteed contracts when they sign Keyon Dooling and that doesnt include Nenad Krstic. I am sure there are other teams with rosters in similar shape that we can 'help'. 8)

I would think that Glen Davis would be wanted by quite a few teams, but he makes almost no money so there's no one the Cs would want in return.
