I would to sign delfino to a contract. He would take 2-3 million easily and would be a great 6th man for us. I've watched him play and his defense is very underrated and he can do doubt shoot the lights out. He would be a decent replacement to posey cept not having quite the defensive abilities with higher capabilities on offense. Toronto has an influx of small forward/guards and don't think they would match an offer sheet. In a right enviroment and team like boston he could do wonders compared to his awful situation in toronto

Ryan gomes is demanding 5 million plus?? wow is all i can say. Good player but i don't think he is worth that yet. He hasn't played in a winning team which is not really his fault but still i think at best he is worth 3 to 3.5. Maybe if danny offered a 3 year deal he mite bite to comeback to the team he owes his life to?? prob not but anythings possible

Dahntay Jones can't shoot the three. But he can do alot of other things well and can score in other ways. He is a very good defender and he would take vet min for two years . He is under denvers summer league team so i believe they get first crack to sign him

Guys i'm realizing are not good fits for us

Quinton Ross - he is too fraile and plays sg. I like to give giddens and bill walker a chance at the backup position(let them learn a couple of things from ray allen).

Matt Barnes - The attitude is the only part i don't like. He is tall but fraile as well(some of these guys need to eat some more steak). I really thought he would be a good pickup but i don't know anymore. I think he wants lots of cash than he is worth

Delfino, gomes, jones all guys at least 6'6 over 210 pounds all decent defenders(can learn to be better in the celtics team defense system) can score and work hard most importantly.

Delfino recently signed with Khimki in Russia:

I like Ross and Barnes for this team

Delfino i think just agreed to play in russia for 30 million. It would be tough to pry him away.

I really have always liked Gomes, maybe its for sentimental reasons but I would LOVE to see him back. But i know danny is worried about crippling the cap so i am not sure it will work

Dahnty Jones i also really like. I think he could be a part of this team in a similar, but not as good James posey fashion. Atleast bring him into camp again, he is going to be good at some point i beleive

Quinton Ross seems decent but we already lack scoring off the bench

Barnes is a very good player, and i was wondering what was holding him back. Is it his attitude? Anyone know what his deal is?

I found this on the Washington Post:

"Folks keep asking about free agency and particularly want to know about SF Matt Barnes, who has been with Golden State the last two seasons. Barnes is still out there but the word is that teams are going to wait him out and get him at a good price. The Wizards, who have only around $1.5 million left under the luxury tax threshold, are interested but the guy is obviously is not going to be thrilled about taking a lot less than what he made last season (he had a $3 million base salary and also may have hit some bonuses). Again, he could be a guy that is out there for awhile and eventually picks the best fit and the best deal he can land."

Dayam Delfino for 30 million?? that is insane

I guess he is off the list. Sux he would have been a really good pickup

Some other guys danny could look at for dirt cheap are michael ruffin and ira newble. Both a little older but both solid defenders. I remember one game again'st the cavs pierce had all sorts of trouble again'st newble(being physical with him) and newble was actually the one scoring more

Really puzzling why the lakers didn't give him a chance

Newble probably does have the best mixture of defense/perimeter shooting left available.Himself or Devean George.

Be interesting to see what happens to Newble because I haven't heard one mention of him since the start of free agency, he looks like he's getting lost in the shuffle.

Ricky Davis is appreciably better than all of those guys.  A team with the kind of character that this one has can absorb one questionable character.

I think Michael Finley or Eddie Jones is the best pick up at the wing. They will sign for the minimum, not complain about minutes, are smart and experienced enough to spot start if needed amd most of all they will help mentor Giddens and Walker.

Both can also definitely still hit a jump shot and play team defense. 8)

Jones is tearing it up in Summer League.... but would you expect any different? Does Jones bring anything to the table that Tony Allen doesn't?

Most important trait in a wing right now is ability to play good D.

Finley shot only 41% last season, and only got to the line for one paltry FT a game.  He did shoot 37% from three, the only thing he does well anymore.

In the playoffs, he shot only 40/36% and got to the line for only 9 FTs in 17 games.  He got a rebound every 12 minutes, and passed for an assist every 25 minutes. Not exactly the Energizer Bunny off the bench.

If you want a one dimensional guy who is just going to make a decent percentage of threes, while not doing much else, Finley is your man.

All good points and true, OTOH he will not be dribbling the ball off his foot and making 'bonehead' defensive plays. He knows what his limitations are and will play within the team concept. I see his role as quite a bit different in our offense than it was with San Antonio, but maybe that's just me. 8)

If Danny's thinking about any of the three in the subject line, someone needs to get him to a strip joint in a hurry so he can think about something else.

i don't think that one year makes that big of a difference. in the nba a year of difference with playing time is a lot but not in the nbdl, with talent that just didn't make it in the nba. if he didn't make the team last year, i don't know if he's good enough to make the team this year.

Delfino i think just agreed to play in russia for 30 million. It would be tough to pry him away.

That number was reported, but he signed a €9 million/3 years contract (after taxes, so it's roughly a $23 million/3 years NBA contract - still an awful lot of money for a player like Delfino)

I really don't think Gomes fills a need. Jones is probably not good enough.

Newble, Finley and Devean George used to be among my favourite players, and I'd be thrilled to get them a couple of years ago, but aren't they washed up? They certainly look old, tired and slow out there. Ira has played less than 100 games in the last 3 seasons, putting up terrible numbers. I think that when it comes to defense, George still has more left in him than Newble.
