The agent is seeking the full MLE. That's crazyness!!! Everyone and their mom thinks they should get 5-6 mil a year.

Gomes is worth $16/4 at the absolute most, I think more like $10/3. I think it is a mistake to run around signing stacks of MLE players, when salary-wise, 2 or 3 of these guys equal an all star financially.

Yeah, Gomes is just the FA signing that will keep Lebron in Cleveland. :P
Good one.  TP for you.  They had Larry Hughes as a legit #2 and how did that work out.

Can LeBron make it any more clear that he's headed to the Nets in 2 years?  Cleveland should just roll up the white flag and trade him.  LOL.

I'd rather sign Gomes to the full MLE than a 31 year old. Gomes will get better. The 31 year old will decline.

I would be open to signing Gomes or Dooling (preferably Dooling) to a 2 or 3 year mle type deal with just enough room to sign Bill Walker to a deal.

It's more years than dollars that are important now.

I like Keyon Dooling as well at that price, but if you could have Delonte West for the same money do you take him instead? I have to say yes, I think Delonte acccepts his role better and is more coachable by far. The rest, shooting, defense and ball handling are a wash.

Gomes will get overpaid somewhere as a character/glue/locker room/dirty work guy. Good for him. 8)

I loved Gomes when he was here, but there is no way he gets a full MLE.  If that is the way the market is going right now, I feel Danny is best off waiting for the market to come back to reality before he does sign any FA.  Let the other teams blow all their money.

That isn't "crazyness" - that's the agent's job! Gomes is a very smart and sensible guy - he knows this contract is probably his best chance to set himself up for life. He has worked very hard to put himself in this position. People act like he should turn down 4 or 5 million for 5 years because "he's not worth it". Of course he is worth it - if someone -- anyone -- is going to give it to him.  That's it - that's where the market is at - there are certainly plenty of examples of guys who earn more than fans think they are worth - but there are lots of CEOs collecting big salaries and bonuses as well.  He's a 25 or 26 year old 12 + 6 player who was the second best on the court player for the Wolves last year And he's a solid character guy. It's like all the people who want to kick Scal for taking the Cs $15 million over 5 years - it certainly isn't his fault or problem they offered the deal.

The thing I really don't get is how people are trying to look to "protect" the long-term future of the Cs in terms of signings. The long term future of this franchise is Rajon Rondo right now. That's it. They have a 2-3 year window to play for titles. I'd take that then look to rebuild anew.

Lets pick up Delonte for Cheap while everyone else has forgotten about him  ;)

Seriously though I'm surprised that Cleveland doesn't seem to want him back.

Hopefully Danny hasn't forgotten about him.

correct me if I'm wrong, but if the Cavs sign Gomes, they won't have any room to resign Delonte, right? I would love to get delonte back for 3yr 10 mil. maybe a little cheap, but he will be a back up, and he loved Boston.
Bring back Delonte, and it will help forget about Posey.

We should be glad that Cle doesn't look like it will be able to get a legit #2. Let them sign Gomes, for all I care, just as long as it ties them up for more money or causes them to become a little too complacent this year.

Agreed.  I hope they re-sign Delonte too.  Let them keep putting mediocre players around Lebron.

who aren't the cavs looking at. They brought Bryant Reeves to camp this year.

Kidding..but it seems like every single FA is on their radar, and the press has some need to mention it.

Well they did bring in the Tractor! I wonder if he finally got under 400 lbs?

I think it's more correct to say that Gomes, as a four year college player and after three years in the league, is getting pretty close to what he's going to be for his career.  With Ryan Gomes you have another five years of 15/7 before he starts to decline.  I'm pretty hesitant to say that he'll get much better than that, which is a standout career among players chosen 50th overall in the draft, I'm sure.

I agree with the earlier post as well, I can only imagine in 2010 LeBron talking on the phone to Jay Z "Oh man Shawn, I think I'm going to have to resign with Cleveland, we just picked up on JJ Hickson's option."

Posey wasn't worth the full MLE over 5 years.  I'd still argue over the next 4 years, you'd get a hell of a lot more from Posey than Gomes.  Posey offers defense and a perimeter shot.   Gomes offers neither.   I'm open to offering Ryan Gomes a 2 (maybe 3) year contract at just below the MLE to free up room to sign Walker.   I'd rather go after Josh Childress
