The Wolves have not yet signed restricted free agents Ryan Gomes and Chris Richard or unrestricted free agent Sebastian Telfair. Several teams have pursued Gomes and negotiations with a team such as Cleveland could intensify now that Boston free agent James Posey has signed with New Orleans.

Gomes' agent likely is eyeing the full mid-level exception of $5.6 million for next season. If Gomes signs with another team, the Wolves have seven days to match the offer or let Gomes go.

I hope Gomes gets the full midlevel where ever he signs.  good player, and better person.

Gomes *should* be absolutely available.  Minny just re-signed Craig Smith to a two-year deal.  Big Al's obviosuly locked into one of the frontcourt spots, and Love's in at the other.  Smith backs up the PF spot.  Mike Miller's the small forward, and you'd think they didn't trade for Carney just to let him sit on the bench.  Corey Brewers' in the mix at SF, too.

Where does Gomes fit into the mix there?

I'm not convinced Gomes is worth the FULL MLE, but if someone offers that to him for four years, why would they match (other than McHale's head injury, that is)?

who aren't the cavs looking at. They brought Bryant Reeves to camp this year.

Kidding..but it seems like every single FA is on their radar, and the press has some need to mention it.

Re: Cleveland, they need a REAL #2 guy.  They've brought in a bunch of OK players, but guys that are either very one-dimensional (Wally, Ben Wallace) or just kinda OK (Delonte, potentially Gomes).  LeBron needs a legit #2 - I just don't have a clue how they do that.  Gomes is a nice player to have, he'll be a rotation player for a long time - but he's not someone who gets you over the hump.  Think Artest could co-exist with LeBron?

Didn't the Cavs use a big chunk of their MLE on Gibson? He was only a 2-year player, so he didn't have Bird rights. The highest starting salary they could've offered Boobie without using exception money is 175% of last year's salary (%687,000), or about $1.2 million. I don't think his deal is for that little.

If they gave Gibson a starting salary of about 3 mil a year, they only have 2.6 left for free agents - I don't think Gomes will go for that. Although it wouldn't be a bad deal for either side. I like Gomes, but there's no way he's worth anything near the full MLE. $3.5 mil a year, tops, sounds right for an undersized power forward. I won't saddle him with "never been on a winning team" though - I think he's the kind of guy who would be much better and more valuable on a good team.

Wouldn't Minn be looking for a sign and trade deal? They got the room to sign him but got too many bodys at his spot. Couldn't they leverage a pick or someone out of a sign and trade? I guess some team would be forced to pay a little more than the MLE. Not sure Gomes is worth that much but I don't think the center Bogut for Milw is worth 72 mill either.

We should be glad that Cle doesn't look like it will be able to get a legit #2. Let them sign Gomes, for all I care, just as long as it ties them up for more money or causes them to become a little too complacent this year.

Well, he could kinda fill into Posey's spot, more of a midrange game, less of an outside shot, no where near the D.  It would depend on whether they thought he could play mostly at the SF spot, since backup PF seems to be locked down.  I'm also expecting BBD (or maybe Powe) to get traded, so there MIGHT be some minutes to be had at the PF spot in small lineups.  But, not a priority, and at the price that it would make sense to make a signing Minny would match in a heartbeat.

I bet they'd match almost any contract short of full MLE or for more than three years; even if you weren't going to play him much, Gomes would have a decent amount of trade value if he's on a 3 yr/$12M-kind of contract (which is about what I think he should be getting paid).

I love Ryan Gomes, but his stats off the bench are appreciably worse than as a starter. The idea of him as a 6th man type is a good one in theory, but he hasn't shown that he can fill that role effectively so far in his career.

I like Gomes a lot and hope that one day he comes back....but my God, there's no way in h*ll he's worth the MLE.
