lets not jump on a guy for floating a rumor without naming his source - that's a good way to kill future rumors from showing up here

I like the fact that he admitted that he wasn't sure about the source and didn't try to hammer this home as being something we have to believe because he said so

just take a rumor as a rumor with a grain of salt

(who knows, maybe we'll see Bill Ingram "confirm" this rumor by posting it on Hoopsworld)

p.s. if House is going to Cleveland, I agree, it might make Delonte expendable, which puts him a step closer to Boston (which I like)

I think House fits nicely with the C's as they are constructed and I hope they resign him, but if they don't, I think there are a lot of options out there and that Ainge will figure it out...
Now, on to 18...

dwest is actually a much better pg than house is so we'll finally have our backup shooting point guard we need. its like a house/cassell hybrid. i love it. please let this rumor be true.

And who guarantees that West will sign with the Celtics or that Cleveland will choose not to match?

that would give them 5 gaurds who like to shoot.

i mean, i guess thier GM is kinda terrable, but seems to me they'd probley cut someone, and west is the one without a contract.

How about we offer Eddie House a 20% raise, and then sign both Barnes and Wells, and be done with it =)

Now, if only we had an empty roster spot instead of Scal to save for someone like PJ, to shore up our front court.

Who knows, Danny Ferry is the Cavs GM, so we never know what is up or down his sleeve. This rumor may be true, for all we know.  ;) They could be preparing to trade.

I don't see CLE signing House, after extending Gibson. Between Gibson and Jones, they have enough 3 point shooting to back up the PG position.

They should sign West. He brings more to the table than just outside shooting.

But if it is true that CLE has signed House, how much does Delonte need? He's better than Gibson. And i don't think the C's want to put that kind of bread in a backup PG.

$20+/5

How about we don't stock up with 8 swingmen and/or combo guards?

Just Barnes or Wells will be fine, then Eddie, and then a spot for PJ then. What do you think?

If Ainge wouldn't even offer Lue the vet minimum, what are the chances House received more than the minimum from the Celtics? Could Ainge value House more than Lue and give House more than the minimum?

Danny offered House more than the minimum last year so I reckon he'll be comfortable offering him more than the minimum this year.

What I wonder is how many years Danny is comfortable at? .... and now that the MLE is back in play how much of a raise is he willing to offer?

You cannot 'not offer' the vet minimum to someone. That's why it is a minimum.

1.2 million is the veteran minimum for Lue. 1.8 million, on the other hand, isn't.

I don't understand.  Why is the vet minimum different for Lue?

Edit:  My bad.  I thought the minimum was $1.8M.

Interesting thought, but I don't think the MLE affects how we're looking at House. Ainge tried to get him for the minimum. I don't see why he'd jump from that to anything higher than $1.8 million, which is what we can give Eddie without using any midlevel or biannual exception money (that would be under the veteran free agent exception). I think that's our limit - rather, that would be my limit, Ainge's limit may be much lower. In any event, I don't see us using MLE money to get him. If House wants more than $1.8 a year (I doubt he'll sniff that) If Ainge doesn't see anybody he likes, he'll probably save the MLE in case somebody much better comes available during the season.

On that note, can anybody tell me whether we can still use the VFA exception to resign Tony Allen using Bird rights even though we did not extend a qualifying offer. I understand that makes him unrestricted, but can we still avoid the use of exception money in resigning him?

You can 'not offer' the vet minimum. Ainge definitely did not offer the vet minimum to me. Just kidding.

And yes, I can see Ainge valuing House more than Lue. I personally think House is a better overall player. I would offer both the vet minimum, but would offer House more than I would offer Lue, personally. However, seeing that Lue got $1.91 million (biannual exception) from Milwaukee - I would not offer House more than Lue got. A contract starting at 1.8 is fair for House - question becomes, how many years, and if it's more than 2, do we offer a bit less money (like a flat 1.5 per year for three seasons)?
Go Celtics.
