Uhhhh... no.   You're forgetting about the upside of Trent Plaistead.   I think it's a pretty solid trade, really.  

I know I have since edited my previous post. I want no parts of Plaisted! Give me 2 Geralds before I touch him!

I think you're severely underrating Plaisted.  He's a legit 6-10... was 3 rebounds short of averaging a double double in College and provides this team with much needed size.  He reminds me of a young Greg Foster and can run a 4.4 in the 40 yard dash   If this trade went through, Plaisted would be the key component that slides under the radar at first sight... like Jiri Welsch in the original Walker trade.

This trade opens our window of opportunity by several years, setting us up long into the future.  It also allows us to play small ball on a full-time basis, by shifting Big Al over to center and playing Gomes at PF.

The reason Minni does it is because they have a young core and need some vet leadership.  What better vet leader for that young squad that Kevin Garnett?  It's a pretty logical move from their standpoint.   They would be bringing in an excellent mentor to lead that young team until one of the young guys like Kevin Love takes over.

The trade is a no-brainer, no other way to get younger and compete in the future, plus after a championship win, we have some major chips to deal. It might also be a good idea when we get Gerald back to trade him for T-Mac, since they are the same player, then as soon as the restriction is over... trade T-Mac back for Gerald since they are the same player but Gerald is younger.

Only problem I see is who is going to helm this squad of future hall of famers? Doc may have championship pedigree, but does he have the ability to coach a young team and get the most out of his players, and in the process separate the real up-an-comers from the busts, at the very least so they could later be traded for star veterans? I'm not so sure, my suggestion, get rid of Doc, we need someone that has a lot of experience coaching young players, maybe even college players. Best guy I see for the job, Rick Pitino, if we can snag him away from the college scene, I think he's a guy whose coaching style, and possibly general managing style, could really work in the NBA.

That could work.  He's a master motivator.  But really the guy I think I'd like to see the Celtics hire is the GM on Memphis.  He has a pretty good track record as a scout, but just happens to be part of that whole "cost cutting" scene over there.   If we could get that guy over to Boston with an owner willing to spend money I bet he could come up with some pretty clever moves.
