If you want to win (or at least make the playoffs), the Eastern Conference is the appealing place right now.  Bran saw this and found a decent nucleus to work with in Philly.  From a competitive standpoint, smart move by Brand.  From a ethical standpoint, probably not.

I'm not sure Brand did anything "ethically" wrong. He was free to become a FA. Now if he told the Clips he was definitely coming back if they sign Davis then that would be wrong (but the Clips got Davis for a fair contract). If Brand told Davis that if he signed with the Clips he would definitely follow suit, then that would be a crummy thing to do to Davis. But Davis was quoted today saying he hopes Brand resigns with the Clips, but that L.A. is where he wanted to be regardless. So we might hve been misled a little by this whole "inside deal"

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Terrible move by brand.

Why so?  I think Philly has a pretty legit team if this goes through.

I think it's going to make people question Brand's integrity, though.  If he gave L.A. his word, this is a really crappy thing to do.

I agree...Just when I thought NBA superstars were starting to 'get it'...Elton Brand goes and pulls a stunt like this. Sheesh.

great for the sixers bad for NBA image.

The Clippers could still say "screw Davis" and exercise it Bird-rights and swoop in at the last minute correct? Hobbs?

Well once Boozer signs with the Heat next Summer, the East will have gotten a lot closer to the West.

If I am Baron Davis, I take back my verbal commitment and sign with someone else.

Does Philly still have room to sign Iguodala?

Sure.  They have full Bird rights.

Iggy is a restricted free agent in Philly I believe and now the Clips now have a ton of cash to throw at him.   I love to see the Clippers offer Iggy a mega contract that the Sixers don't match to continue the soap opera that is 2008 summer NBA free agency.   ;D

That would be quite a turn of events. ;)   It's like these guys are playing musical chairs with teams cap space and I'm sure the Clips go hard after a restricted free agent now to appease Davis.

The Clippers could up their offer to Brand if they wanted to, if Brand indicated he'd come back for more money.  As you said, though, that would mean no Davis.

Right.  The cap space Philly had already included a "cap hold" for Iggy, and they still had space to fit Brand in.

5 yeara at $82 mill, can't turn that down in any town.

I got a bad feeling that Posey is going to get a much better offer than we can put on the table. Can't blame him if he takes it either. Last chance to cash in and he's already got 2 rings, not much else to prove.

There was an article written how the Clippers "take it or leave it" stance with Brand's contract rubbed him the wrong way and probably a pretty significant role in this development.

wow, this philly team actually scares me now. i still think we have a better team, miller always plays well against rondo. iggy keeps getting better, Dalembert is a excellent defensive center, williams and Young look to have a good upside, and now brand.
lets not forget the run they made at the end of the season, and they took detroit to 6 games.

i hope we can sign posey now that maggette is going to the warriors and pietrus is going to orlando. fill our bench fast
