I don't know if you guys listened to the end of Dale and Holley today but Paul Pierce actually revealed he had beef with Rondo last year and almost got into a fight with him this year. I guess Rajon is a pretty hard headed dude.

People blow way out of proportion these team "beefs."  You spend so much time with someone that these things are bound to happen. Anyone who ever shared a room with a brother or has had roommates knows this. Coupls also argue, but that doesn't mean one needs to get traded ;) ha

Rondo and Pierce are the two guys most likely to argue on the court all season. I've seen Pierce scowl at him, and Rondo bark back numerous times. This is not surprising, but again, I don't consider this a bad thing. Every team I was ever on that was any good got in intra squad arguments frequently and had players that didn't get along. Ubuntu is focusing on the task at hand regardless of the other stuff.

I was visiting a friend at the USN Academy in Annapolis and his squad was setting up for a tailgate, having gone to BC, I had about 10x tailgating experience, but before I could make a recommendation, my buddy pointed out "this academy is full of people who view themselves as alpha males, being trained to be alpha males, and worried about not being alpha males, sometimes its best to get out of the way on the small stuff." A sports team is similar in that almost every guy has to be extremely alpha just to make it - that means plenty of fights.

no bother to me. There are a lot of strong willed people on this team. I'm proud of rondo for making his part work under all the heavy handed advice from Doc, PP, RA, KG!!

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
Clearly, either Rondo or Pierce is unhappy in Boston.  Which one will be traded?

(I'm joking, of course, but pretty much the exact same reasoning was used to justify the idea that we should / will trade Ray Allen this off-season.)

Paul actually admitted to really not liking him though last season.. Then again I don't think Paul liked anyone on his team.

I heard the interview, but don't remember hearing Paul say he didn't like Rondo, although I may have somehow missed that.  I did hear him say that he and Rondo almost got into a fight last season and that Rondo was a hard headed dude. Didn't sound like a big deal at all. He loves him now though. :D

I love the fact that Rondo is standing up the Pierce.  Rondo is the PG, and he needs to be hard headed.  He is the one with the ball in his hands, and he needs to be in control.  I can completely understand how this would drive Pierce nuts, but I think they are both adults, and they clearly did not hold grudges.

yea...thats not what he said after listening to the pod cast.

sounds like your typical "hes no pushover, our young PG!" story to me. heard similar things about all the young PG's. tough and give it right back to the other stars.

There was an article/interview with Doc Rivers early in the year about this topic.  He wants this from his point guard.  The essence of the article was that when Doc was a young point guard he'd get into arguments with his star players all the time.  They would constantly demand the ball and he'd have to make the decision and tell them to buzz off and trust his judgment.   Not sure what the Pierce/Rondo debate is, but It's good the young guy stands up for himself.

Completely guessing here (the debates could be about anything), but Pierce had a history of trying to take over games commando style in previous years.  Having a young unproven point guard demanding to control the ball could cause some conflict.  And perhaps Pierce or Rondo disagreed on how the offense should be run.   KG made reference a few times during the season that the various players would have some heated debates.   But I'm sure it's all for the common goal of being the best team they could possibly be.  They found a winning formula.

Btw, we hear about star players not getting along all the time.  Didn't Bird pretty much get along with nobody on the team?  It's teams like the 2008 Celtics who find a way to make it work and balance the personalities for excellence.

I remember when they almost got into a fight on the court.  Doc had to call timeout and they were separated in the huddle.  It was pretty late in the season b/c Cassell was the one holding Rondo back.

Doc in an interview earlier this season said he told Rondo in his rookie season that his teammates didn't like him.

Yeah...I listened to the recording of the interview.  Pierce was laughing the entire time he was talking about the incident.  It was obvious there was no hard feelings.

I think Rondo has the potential to be in the tier just below Paul and Williams in terms of PGs in the league, a little assertiveness will help!
Now, on to 18...

When you're with a bunch of guys in a close setting for months on end, there's bound to be some scuffles.  I'm sure there's plenty of stuff that went on behind closed doors that we'll never hear about.  This particular instance is of no concern.
