If there was a way to get T. Allen and Pietrus for the full MLE, would you guys prefer that over Posey? I know I would, Tony Allen and Pietrus at the SG and SF positions would be tough as nails. We would easily the best bench wing defenders in the league. They are both young players as well. Both of these guys are athletic and can attack the glass. I invision Rondo playing 40+ a night, so essentially a second unit of Rondo, T Allen, Pietrus, Davis/Powe/ and FA big (Birdman?) would be athletic and scary. With this idea we will still need a back up PG, we will likely go into luxury tax signing a servicible big and PG. But to conclude this thought I would prefer to have two guys who can run, defend, and slash rather than one (Posey)

I don't think DA brings back Tony Allen, esp if he gets Pietrus. Pietrus is a 3/2, that is to say his secondary position is the 2 guard spot. Posey's is the 4 spot. Tony Allen would be one step further away from the court, and his roster spot would be unwarranted.

My preference lies with signing Posey to a contract of reasonable length(3 years), and then signing a backup big and backup PG. My dream is the Celtics do Posey for a 3 year full MLE, give Kurt Thomas a 2 year LLE, and find a way to get Roger Mason as the backup point done.

Eddie House and Tony Allen would be unfortunate subtractions. If Bill Walker goes to Europe without signing a contract then I say land Eddie if possible.

I agree.  No way is Danny going to count on a rookie.  I'd rather have Posey and Tony.  Tony will come cheap and I'm willing to bet he'd be much better next season.

Look at a guy like Rodney Stuckey..Giddens could be like that...He's a 4 year college guy, 23, no injury history (unlike Tony) and isn't known for boneheaded defensive plays, on top of having 3 pt range. Giddens is a more versatile player than tony baloney. I have no problem with him getting 15 minutes a night.

i agree. if were talking 10-15min a night and the choice is going with giddens vs resigning tony to do that its a no-brainer to go with the kid. hes old enough, hes gonna be a good defender and even as a rookie id trust him as much as i would tony. at least when/if giddens makes a mistake on defense he has the "rookie" excuse. tony is a dumb basketball player. ill take my chances with jr if were talking 10-15mpg

"Could be like that".  But I would hope that Danny would keep Tony around if he comes cheap, because I would hope that Danny wouldn't count on a rookie to produce.  I say keep Tony around for one more season.  If Giddens works out, Tony is not re-signed the following season.  But right now, I can't see Danny counting on a rookie, not when they are trying to win another ring.

Tony Allen won't take part of the MLE. Pietrus, shouldn't take the full MLE. If he did take it, I would be quite skeptical to the signing.

Who do we get in addition to Pietrus with the MLE should be the important part.

There's no reason why we can't have Tony and Posey.

Pietrus is Tonny Allen on steroids. Bigger, a little better, more explosive, equally dumb, but they duplicate skills and what they offer. IMO, this wouldn't make any sense at all.

First, Posey is still the better deal. 

Secondly, why would you even want Pietrus and Allen?  While Allen still might get some run in the regular season in that circumstance, come playoff time, like this year, Pietrus would take all of the backup 2/3 minutes.  Keep in mind people, that on a team with stars at the 2 and 3, we really only need one quality backup at the 2/3 unless someone gets hurt. 

I think as long as the C's get Posey or Pietrus, Giddens should be just fine in filling in the "Tony Allen" role of 10 mpg during the regular season with about 0 mpg in the playoffs.

Ah, the important exception... unless someone gets hurt. As I've said countless times, we were quite lucky that our team was healthy through most of the year and playoffs. Depth is overrated, until you suddenly need it.

Ah, the important exception... unless someone gets hurt. As I've said countless times, we were quite lucky that our team was healthy through most of the year and playoffs. Depth is overrated, until you suddenly need it.

True.  But if one if Pierce, Allen, or Posey/replacement go down for any extended period of time, Tony Allen's "depth" isn't going to make a difference.
