According to CNNSI.com the Boston Celtics worked out D.Miles, and he was "impressive". Don't know if that was impressive for a guy that was suppose to be done, or Darius Mile athletic freak impressive. The good news is that if he does come back the Blazers have to pay the rest of his contract (does not count on the cap), so we could sign him for cheap money for a year to see what he does. Folks your thoughts ? I feel like at 800K it is a minimal risk high rewards situation. Yeah he has an attitude, but the veterans can keep that in check.

Portland has to pay his salary currently but it does not count against the cap. If he signs with a team and plays 10 games than his salary goes back on Portland's cap if I read the article correctly. Frankly I'm all for it just to screw Portland's cap situation up for stealing B. Roy from us.
I need to post more so that I'm no longer characterized as Tony Allen

I wouldn't be surprised if Miles is the backup plan to Maggette/Posey.

He's clearly a knucklehead.  But, if someone could light a fire under his a**, he's athletic enough to be effective in the Celtics' defensive scheme.  And Danny Ainge clearly has a man-crush on athletic guys who he thinks might be "undervalued" due to off-court concerns.

I'm neither hot nor cold on Miles.  He clearly has a lot of unrealized potential.  But you can say that about a lot of NBA flops.

I'd be interested.  Depends on what happens.  I love his size and athleticism, he could be a more talented version of Walter McCarty.  He could also fit the bill as Posey's defensive chameleon replacement, as he could literally guard anyone on the floor.  But unlike Posey and Walter, he doesn't have a good outside shot.  That worries me as a lot of the success of the Big Three is based on floor spacing.  If the defense can cheat off of Miles, that hurts their effectiveness.

I know that a lot of poeple on this blog are extremely opposed to picking up Miles even at a bargain price, but I think it would be a good idea as long as he is healthy.

He has been an idiot for most of his career, but the talent is there.

Also, I have a dvd from a few years back titled "Born to Ball" (I believe) that is hosted by Paul Pierce and he says something like "I would love to play wit D. Miles some day."  It also shows Darius playing in Paul's charity basketball game so I think that they are friends.

If the Celtics fill all the holes and there is one spot left open, then taking a shot with him at the min can work.

He can not be the guy that replaces Posey.

Brandon Roy!? If we didn't make that trade there is no KG and no banner 17. That trade was for an expiring contract more then anything else.

RipRed had a good point. He could be very useful for us. I would say look at him like a Brandon Wallace last year, pay him little money and if it doesn't workout cut him. IFhis knee is healthy I am pretty sure that he would be willing to work his butt off to show the rest of the NBA that he still has some left in the tank.

And Danny wanted Rondo anyway, he just thought #7 was too high to pick him.  So he got the expiring contract AND Rondo.  That's why there is a banner 17.

I'm all for it. Just get him in ten games, so Blazers get their cap screwed up is worth it, considering they are supposedly a new threat out west. If he ends up healthy great, if not he's the new new Tony Allen.

How many guys have missed 2+ years because of injury and came back to be productive NBA players?  My guess is you're not gonna find anyone on that list.  I understand the risk might be minimal if it's a minimum contract, but we shouldn't get carried away with what the possible rewards might be.

I pick him up, and start making unreasonable trade requests to Portland, like, we'll give you Baby and Scal for Aldridge, then play Miles a couple games, as that cap hit becomes more and more apparant, we say, ok we'll throw in Darius... we make a steal of a deal, they get DM and make sure he can't play again, and Danny looks like a genius, you heard it here first =)

This seems like the sort of "getting on good terms with someone else's agent" move that Danny does a lot of -- we bring the guy in a for a workout and say he looked impressive, this helps him get a contract elsewhere, which gives us leverage when negotiating with his agent for the player we really want.

Gosh, this is old news. We had it on CB about 3 days ago. Link (July 4):

Quote
An NBA source said the Celtics surprisingly worked out Blazers free agent small forward Darius Miles yesterday and he had an impressive workout. Miles missed last season while recovering from knee surgery.

I also saw a topic which was started today and went something like this: "Breaking news, Doc calls Maggette!" But this was also 3 days ago, from the same article. Somebody is clearly living in the past.
