the NBA is a little different than the MLB though, in that you only have a max of 15 players on your roster and there tends to be more of a transcience to guys moving around.  With the MLB you have a farm system, so a priority really is placed on youth.  In the NBA yes young cheap talent is great to have around, but often times its used to trade for vets (as the c's did to land KG and RA) vs. being used within your own team.  Even looking at Detroit, a team which many say are doing a good job of developing young talent while consistently winning, I wouldn't be surprised if you see Stuckey, Johnson and/or Maxiell packaged with an aging veteran for a younger superstar type athlete, instead of actually using the homegrown talent in the future.  The days of guys staying with a team for a career, or even 7 years, are not here anymore. Guys like the Truth are a rarity in the league, most guys are developed and shipped away

So it is possible we grow Rondo, Baby, Bill Walker and JR Giddens to package in a deal with Pierce to get CP3 soon?

It sounds like a lot, but when you consider the long term capacity of CP3, he's got a long HOF career ahead of him imo, it could be possible in 2-3 years (of course Rondo may be too valuable at  that point)

I'd only do that deal for a great big man. Unless your Michael Jordan, you don't win championships in the NBA without them. So if Dwight Howard or even Big AL becomes unhappy, then sure.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

CP3 isn't coming to Boston...  Ainge already considered that move in the past, and it just didn't happen.  Won't happen now either that the Big 3 has been established.  You don't mess with championship chemistry.  You change the support pieces sure, and free agents leave so you have to replace them.  But when you've got a proven championship core in place... No way would I make that trade.

How ironic would it be a few years from we use some assortment of young players to get Big Al after being one of those young players in the KG trade.   Danny is smart in continuing to develop young talent to protect the future.   Even someone like Pruitt who if he came out this year might have been a top 20 pick as a couple experts have said.  If you want continued success it's a wise strategy.  It's bound to catch up with other teams such as the Suns and maybe even the Spurs in a couple years who have too many aging role players and not enough balance of young players to retool for continued success.   To be honest it would be a less a concern for me if the big 3 were say 27, 28, and 29 but since they are a few years older than that it might be sooner rather than later that Ainge might be looking for new dominant players.  So it's important that these young guys develop.
