I just got a phone call from SShorefan who just got off a plane at logan.
He spotted Chris Andersen there and asked him what was up.
Andersen said he was in town to talk to the Celtics and SShorefan told him he hopes he signs here and Andersen said "me too".
And for what its worth he was wearing snake skin boots and a Colorado Rockies hat (Anderson, not SShorefan - though he may have been too).

Makes sense.  I'd be ok with having him here for the minimum as long as he didn't snort all the ubuntu.

pretty sure he's just here to work out for us. no definite agreements have been made.

anyone know the exact drug he was using? wikipedia just stated that it was not steroids or pot but no one is certain.

and i think the drug thing is a little overrated. i'm sure other players do it too but are never caught.

Become Legendary.

Yeah, drug problems are a concern with him. That 2-year suspension revealed that at some point, he was definitely doing the harder stuff.

I hope he's clean, because if he is, I'd like to see Ainge take a flier on him. It would seem like his presence would rub off of the rest of the guys... an energy-filled shot blocking guy on the 2nd unit. Imagine how beastly Giddens, Powe, and Anderson would be? No other 2nd unit can match up with that athleticism and straight up passion.

Can anyone provide an update on Anderson's level of play. I realize he played very little for NO since returning, but any word on how he looked in practice or any insight re: his ability to return to pre-suspension quality of play.

Let's put aside for the moment the obvious risk with regard to his off-court issues -- but can this guy play?  If you think so -- please tell me why you think so.

He does have a great locker room presence from everything I can gather and certainly can provide a huge energy boost from the bench.  He shouldnt be a priority at this point in the signing game, but Id welcome him to the team.

that said, its interesting to hear he has come out to discuss things with the Celts, though unless both parties are entirely sold on him being a Celt, it seems rather odd that a player like him would be signed so early on.  Id expect the Celts to explore their options for a while longer before making any agreements with Anderson.

Gerald Green already signed... all bets are off.

Meh, I have zero concern about his drug problems especially with our group of guys. The main reason is that if he does fall the Celtics won't have much invested in him, they'll just set him aside and we'll continue with our business. His drug problem wont affect the Celtics at all if it ever came to that, I doubt it will. From the looks of it he has REALLY gotten help and has been helping out in various community projects... always a good sign in my point of view. But you never know when his demons might surface once again, but even if it does it won't be disastrous to the Celtics. This isn't Gin Baker drinking away our salary cap.

not that it makes him any less of an idiot for throwing his teammates under the bus, but i would assume josh howards numbers are close for pot.

I can think of 3 2008 Celtics i would bet the farm on smoking some fine sticky-icky-icky ::)

Huh.

I always envisioned a guy nicknamed "Birdman" drinking a Red Bull and flying in on his own.

I'm very disappointed.

Forget it. Now I don't want him to sign here if he can't really fly.

hahaha true.  Although, that was the Mavs, who are not exactly known for going with the grain.  In any case, it hasnt been Ainge's style in the past.  If I recall, House, Posey, and Pollard were all fairly late signings last year.

We all know the real reason for that. Last summer was unique.

The situation isnt that much different than last year post Garnett trade.  The expectations for the team has risen, but it is still a team that most players would love to play for, we have a relatively similar cap situation and we have the same man in charge of filling in the gaps.  And with the Celts as desired a destination as they are, I would be surprised if they didnt fully explore every option out there, no matter how unlikely.  It just seems unlikely to me that unless everyone was fully convinced that a player was the best possible man for the job, that a signing would occur this early in free agency.

It is different. Mainly because right now from the get-go Ainge knows what holes he wants to fill... it wasn't so clear last year until after they got Garnett. Secondly, we don't know at what point ownership gave the "OK" to spend, remember there was going to be Al Jefferson's negotiation for a contract extension among other things.

Once we got Garnett, most of the choices were already gone... we're early in the free-agency and we can be aggressive with people we like.
