Is this guy any better than Scal?  Sure he's more athletic but that's about it.

that makes him 100 times better than scal. i'm sure he's good at hacking people as well, and he probley sports a better leather jacket.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
Does he have a shot, or can he only dunk.  Geez, what a terrible mix.  It shows nothing of his skills.

yeah, actually there was one 20-footer from the top of the key and 3 layups... :)

Andersen is a very underrated defensive player, and that's exactly what we want from our backup C. I also believe I read somewhere that he has added weight. And I bet that if we sign him, we will go after a backup SF and SG and leave the roster at 14, in case we can upgrade the position which hasn't worked out. And if it's Andersen, we will sign a player like Brown for the 15th spot.

But I think Andersen wil work out pretty well. He shows some real hustle and effort out there, and him and Powe together on the court would just mean pure energy. This guy has a career average of 1.3 blocks in only 16.4 minutes per game. He is one of the best shot blockers in the NBA. How would you not want him? He's also very athletic and has a mid-range jumper.

And don't you worry about character issues. Danny knows exactly who has a reason and who is just a thug. And since Danny contacted Andersen in February before signing Brown, I can assure that he doesn't have severe issues. That being said, I would love to have him.

I just got a phone call from SShorefan who just got off a plane at logan.
He spotted Chris Andersen there and asked him what was up.
Andersen said he was in town to talk to the Celtics and SShorefan told him he hopes he signs here and Andersen said "me too".
And for what its worth he was wearing snake skin boots and a Colorado Rockies hat (Anderson, not SShorefan - though he may have been too).

wait wait... the real news here, you and SS are on speeddial with each other?  I feel left out... that twotiming....

I think Andersen would be a great fit for us. He brings hustle and shot blocking. He goes strong to the hoop and quickly, good things to have when you have an interior passer like KG. He's not turnover prone. He can play PF too, so you can play him with Perk when needed. He can run the floor well.

I really see little downside to this guy as our back-up center.

Marc Spears on Comcast said that he was positive that Chris would sign with the Celtics.

Dickerson asked him point blank "So you think Chris Anderson signs here?".  Marc says "Yes".

I hope it's true.  Looks like he would be a good fit.

yea, for the minimum for a year, i think he'd be a fine back up center.

I hope he doesn't do that bird symbol with his hands after a dunk. Otherwise, I think he'd fit well as a energy/hustle/shot blocker. Looking at the "mix" it looks like he gambles alot looking for the weakside block. Anyone have an opinion of his actual on man-to-man defense?

He doesn't gamble, he just knows when to go for it.

from the Globe today:

Andersen in town
Free agent center Chris Andersen and his agent, Steve Heumann, arrived in Boston yesterday, had dinner with Ainge, and will meet with Ainge and his staff today. The Hornets are also interested in retaining Andersen. Free agents can begin signing contracts Tuesday.

The Celtics have had an interest in Andersen since he was reinstated by the NBA March 4 after serving a two-year ban for violating the league's substance abuse policy. The athletic, 6-foot-11-inch, 228-pounder returned to the Hornets and played in five games. Andersen, who has also played for the Nuggets, has averaged 5 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks over his six-year career.

"He's a guy we've always wanted," Ainge said. "We just want to sit down and talk to Chris and see where he is at with his desire to play in Boston and to see if we think he is a fit."

Sadly I have to borrow his wife's cell phone when I want to use one.  I'm not a big fan of them, but I'm afraid I'd become completely addicted if I got one (I only have room for one media driven addiction - thanks CB).
Yup

I'm really interested in seeing him and Garnett together. How would a practice with those two look like? How would it look like with both of them on the floor. With both of their unique personalities, it could be a ton of fun.

he was also quoted as saying that, "the birdman is in retirement for the time being" meaning that the hand gestures and all that is gonna be pushed to the side a little so that he can work on performing at his potential. which is good and bad, some fans don't wanny see that crap, but i think the garden would go crazy with a second string lineup throwing down serious dunks (anderson, giddens, walker, powe)

I wonder if the Celtics will still make him an offer after signing O'Bryant... I was hoping for Andersen... I think he would be much better than O'Bryant.
