Possibly

There isn't a huge amount of acquirable big man talent out there. Birdman isn't that far off my first choice (Elson).

Wait and see but possibly yes he could be a good choice. Free agency has to play itself out a little bit more first.

Would he take a 1 year contract at the LLE?  Seems like a relatively low risk signing.

I don't get it.

Powe and Davis are way better backup Centers than all the others being discussed around here.

Am I the only one who remembers Baby manhandling Timmy Duncan in Texas, or Leon beasting all over the Lakers to the tune of 21pts on the biggest possible stage???????

Also, let us not forget that PJ is on ice, staying fresh for our next playoff run.

Backup Center just isn't an area of need for this Celtics team.

The kid can play.  Given the expectations for him, he'd be able to work his way in.  If he can return to his former self in basketball, then he'd be a steal.  If not, maybe he and Parish can hang out, and the Chief can show him where the best weed is in the northeast.

I always liked birdman, but I don't know if he is exactly what we need on this team. I guess when you're really debating the 10-15 slots on the team this a great problem to have.

Um, yes it is.  Those guys are undersized power forwards.  We need some size to KG doesn't become our backup C.

Of course we need a center. Powe and BBD are undersized power forwards! We need legit size.

No, Powe and Baby are not better backups than the guys being discussed. Baby can play a few minutes at center, but not Powe.  The Celtics have NO backup center right now, so not sure why you think one is not needed. ::)

Powe has played a lot of time at the center spot for us.  Realistically however, neither Leon, nor BBD are centers.  They are nothing more than undersized 'back-up' power forwards.

We need a back-up center.  What would happen if we were to meet Shaq in the Finals and Perk has to sit in foul trouble.  Are you really going to let your whole season rest on BBD or Powe to guard him?

We need another big body center.

Well, they were our primary backup centers all year, and we won 66 games.  Call me crazy, but that works for me.

If you would prefer the Birdman fresh off a full season of pulling tubes in his basement, then I guess... well I am speachless acutally...

Come to us, Birdman!
I hope this works out, I love how Ainge keeps finding people with something to prove on the cheap.  I would guess this is for 1 year vet min.  That would not interfere with us spending our MLE money on scoring-threats like CM, and non-bird to Posey.

He is Athletic and will do great-- He just has to hit wide open dunks like "perk-o-lator" tried to do last year as we laugh a man's laugh up by 20 in the fourth.

Go Celts!

PJ Brown will be in a green uniform when the playoffs start in 09.  Write it down on a piece of paper, bury it in your backyard under the apple tree, dig it up in the spring and read it again as fact.

Actually, we had Pollard for the first part of the season, and then we had PJ.
No way do we get past Cleveland if we did not have PJ.

A lot of the time we went small and put KG at center with Posey at power forward, and that worked sometimes, but still   :-\  :P

I want to keep KG away from the center position at his age.

Andersen is a very underrated defensive player, and that's exactly what we want from our backup C. I also believe I read somewhere that he has added weight. And I bet that if we sign him, we will go after a backup SF and SG and leave the roster at 14, in case we can upgrade the position which hasn't worked out. And if it's Andersen, we will sign a player like Brown for the 15th spot.

But I think Andersen wil work out pretty well. He shows some real hustle and effort out there, and him and Powe together on the court would just mean pure energy. This guy has a career average of 1.3 blocks in only 16.4 minutes per game. He is one of the best shot blockers in the NBA. How would you not want him? He's also very athletic.

And don't you worry about character issues. Danny knows exactly who has a reason and who is just a thug. And since Danny contacted Andersen in February before signing Brown, I can assure that he doesn't have severe issues. That being said, I would love to have him.
