The worst has to be when the Clint Malarchuck, the goalie for the Buffalo Sabres got his throat slit with a skate.

edit: and for the record, it severed his jugular and a major artery, so it wasnt just a simple cut.

Urg.  Any compound fracture is up there - they're all equally gruesome to me.  Tyrone Prothro's injury was especially bad at Alabama, particularly because he was a talented receiver whose career was completely derailed by his broken leg.

By far and away this has to be the worst.  I don't think I ever saw this camera angle, only the usual tv angle.  The only other one that I think comes close was when Ice Williams was playing for the Yankees and hit the Sox pitcher in the face with a line drive.  I can't remember the pitchers name right now or find the vid.
