Considering the close friendship that Baron Davis and Paul Piece have, would Baron Davis come to the C's for 3 years 15 million ? Granted IFthis situation were to play itself out we would not resign Posey. It would also change the starting rotation to PG - Rondo, SG - B Davis, SF - PP, PF -KG. C - Perk with Ray Ray coming off the bench as the 6th man. Granted this is just an excited fan thinking of possiblities but

A. Would Davis do it ?

B. Would Danny/Doc do it ?

C. Would Ray come of the bench ?

I highly doubt it.

If for some reason one of the superstars decides to make less for a chance at a championship of the current class, it'll be Brand.... but it's not going to happen.

Zero chance.

I'd say he'd take less to play for Miami.

Davis
Wade
Marion
Beasley
Blount  ;D

reserves

Banks
Cook
Wright
Haslem

I'd be nervous to play them.

Don't get me wrong, I love Davis, and Arenas, but of the big names on the Free Agent market the only one I would want is Brand.  I think Davis might take less to play on a contender, but I'm not sure it would be Boston.

  • The good ole days.
A) No, Baron would not do it.  He lives a pretty expensive lifestyle here in the Bay Area and is also seriously pursuing the media production business he's starting, which tells me he is going to want to secure his final long term, large contract this offseason.

B) If Baron was available for the MLE, and Posey had signed elsewhere, I really don't see why they would not jump at the chance.  It would possibly hurt Rondo's confidence and progress, and Baron might not be the best fit for the Celtics, but he is a great point guard, so why not?

C) Absolutely not.  You don't bench Ray Allen for a guy that is one of the highest volume/low percentage 3 point shooters in the game.  Baron is a point guard, you would bench Rondo.

I would hope he would not, because he is not an Ubuntu kind of guy, IMO. I'd rather have Rondo run the point.

If we got Baron Davis, Rondo would come of the bench, not Ray.

No way Davis takes a pay cut. This is his last contract to get big/max money. He's not going to walk away from $15-17 to take $5.

If he accepts a one year deal just to try to win a championship (which I don't expect him to do btw), he would still get another big contract next year, hopefully as a champion.

big if, halfway significant injury, and he never sees a max deal.

It's a nice dream, it's not going to happen.

I think the Clippers are the front runners for Baron.

He opted out to get a big longterm deal. If at the end of his career he's without a ring, then maybe he'd take less for a chance at one. Its unheard of though to opt out of 17 plus million for a yr to sign for several years and many millions, but then sign for 5 million. I rate the odds of this happening at somewhere below zero percent.

Someone who knows cap rules better than me,
Can the Clippers now sign Baron Davis to a large contract because they are under the cap do to Brand opting out, but then go and sign Brand afterwards based on Bird rights? Or do they have to lose rights to Brand (whatever the term is) in order to sign Davis? I don't believe they have enough cap space to sign both outright.
