I was wondering what ya'll thought about bringing in Brandon Wallace for a look. He is a year older, and has some NBDL experience under his belt; A 6 9'' defensive stopper who was seriously considered for a final roster spot last year. Should Ainge give him a chance?

Not at the moment. Only if we make some trades and get more roster spots.

Agreed.  I don't see a lot that Wallace could bring that we couldn't get elsewhere from our current players.  I think with Giddens and Walker, we're set for young wing players with potential.

Indeed. Not that I wouldn't love to see Wallace develop under the C's... but he just doesn't fit at the moment, and we need to address other needs with our seemingly 2 roster spots left.

As said above, unless he has gained about 30 pounds and is ready to defend big PF's and C's, there isn't a spot for him.  I loved how he played in the summer league.  He showed some amazing athletism on defense.  I hope he finds a home in the NBA.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
No...and here's why

People under contract next season:

Pierce
Allen (Ray)
Garnett
Rondo
Perkins
Scal
Powe
BBD
Pruitt
Giddens (He's guaranteed a contract)

Unrestricted:
Posey
House
Cassell
TA
Pollard
Brown

Unsigned Second Rd Picks
Walker
Erden

So out of that list, we can probably safely rule out Pollard, PJ Brown and Erden, Brown will retire and Erden can's play until 2009, as he's under contract in Europe until then. Pollard we will probably just let go.

However, thats somewhat misleading, because I don't think there is a one of us that thinks Danny won't find one or maybe 2 6'10 guys out there, one to fill the 12-15 range for us, and one established vet to be our first or second big off the bench.

So, still not signing our UR's yet, thats 12 guys on the roster. Then, we have to decide on Posey, House, and TA, and Cassell believes firmly that he's coming back to Boston.

One or both of TA and House will probably be gone, because Giddens fills the role of a 2 off the bench that can score and defend.

So that leaves us wil 14 guys plus an unsigned Bill Walker, assuming we can bring back Posey. Personally I'd much rather see Danny sign Bill Walker than Brandon Wallace.

Ideally I wouldn't like to see Cassell back, but Danny will probably be hesitant to just like a guy with as much locker room influence and emotional vet leadership walk. Plus he's KG's boy.

So in summation, since we're not in the Summer league, I don't see us signing really any untested youngster we didn't draft.

Why not Brandon Wallace?!

Last year Brandon Wallace showed some upside and that dreaded "potential" word. He put up very respectable numbers last season in the DLeague and would be a very cost effective signing. He rebounds the ball very well (13.5 boards pg last year) and has a very long frame. Why isn't this guy in the discussion? Danny thought enough of him last year to give him some guaranteed money. I think he could be a great pickup for the 13-15th spots on the roster.

I would be surprised to see Wallace come here. I would imagine his agent would check out other teams with possible roster spots.

I guess we could repeat what we did last year - sign him up til December then let him go if we don't need him and want the roster spot. It's just a little tougher after drafting 2 swing men, esp when the 2nd round pick has so much talent.

Then again, Walker could be so hobbled that we cut him.

Or he should be grateful that we offered him a contract in the first place...

I'm sure he would be, but it would be more likely to happen with another team. We have too many young guys already with the 2 rookies and Pruitt. He would probably be better off joining another team's summer league team if another team has interest.

I'm with you... as I said before, only way I take a look at him is if we clear some roster room via some trade.

But I think he can be a useful basketball player down the line, or even as soon as this year in some crappy teams around the league. Hopefully someone will give him the opportunity.

No.

He is either a non-shooting defensive swing man or an undersized PF.

In both cases, the Celtics have it already covered.

I like him, but our team is just too good to have him.
