the perfect coach

okay first of all, i am well aware of our championship this year. it was huge. now that the celebration has finished, i've gotten greedy- i want more. here's what i have to say:

this team seemed like it was underachieving to me, believe it or not. before you type out a "your ridiculous" reply, think about this: game 6 in the finals, we trashed the 3rd best team in the nba, best in the west. i think that was the first game that all 3 of the big three had a good game as well as rondo and the role players such as posey and house. we've been wanting that all year long.

i feel that that's when our team hit its true peak. so its settled, this team can win a championship with doc as a head coach. he even outcoached the supposed god zen master. however with that said, thats not to rule out the fact that another coach might do a better job. the whole year i feel like he was underusing rallen to the point were he admitted it when rallen didn't make the allstar team the first time.

barkley pointed out during the cav series that mike brown was doing a terrible job coaching because he didn't even get the ball to james in the right spots. he mentioned that when kobe gets the ball, its in his sweet spots, where he'll kill you every time. granted that was not true for us, but it was true for killing almost every other team in the league.

so here's my question, do you think theres another coach out there more suited for our team? one that would've caused the team to peak faster? possibly even higher? just because your the best team in the league, which means your better than all other teams, does not mean the team is working to its full potential.

obviously our players love our coach and theres no chance of a coaching change anytime soon, but just imagine if you could get any present day coach for this team.

if i had to choose one person to coach this team i would choose Doc Rivers. Unless we didn't have Thibodeau, in which case i would want Mike Brown to be coaching us. Since we already have the defense from TT, im glad we have Doc, the players really respond well to him. Then again I was a Doc fan even before our improvement so i may be biased.

I don't believe that someone is saying that Doc's not using Tony Allen is a reason to claim that Doc is less of a coach! There is one reason why Tony Allen didn't get conistant playing time - Tony Allen.

Tony was thoroughly inconsistent and confused all season. You never knew if you would get good Tony or bad Tony. This was true even when he got playing time. The last several weeks of the season, Doc did everything he cold to get Tony going and Tony fumbled the ball every single time.

Doc didn't play Tony because the team was better with him on the bench. That being said, Doc would still like to get Tony back in the hopes that they can help him get his head straightened out.

At this stage, I think Doc is the right coach for this team.  He's still going to do stupid stuff with his rotations, and I still don't completely trust him with matchups, but I think the potential chemistry problems that could come with a less skilled locker room manager would be much more damaging than Doc's in-game decisions.

There are better coaches (Larry Brown, Jerry Sloan, Greg Popovich) but is there a better coach for this team as it stands right now (coming off a championship)?    I'm sure we could repeat under other coaches, but it wouldn't be worth the risk.

One thing Danny could do to help is get Sam Cassell far, far away from our roster.  Doc doesn't seem to be able to keep himself from putting Sam in there, so Danny should take away the temptation.

well, Sloan and Pop got killed in the matchup game by Phil.....so if matchups is a worry for you with Doc, i don't know how Pop or Sloan would make you any less worried at this point.

I think the real difference makers rather than Sloan and Pops being outcoached were the injuries to Manu and Boozer. But to Doc's credit, he had some injury issues to deal with himself, and he still beat the crap out of the Lakers.

Yes, think back to that Cleveland series. What a great defensive team. If we didn't have TT, i would want Mike Brown, a defensive minded coach for this team. That isn't my first choice though. My first choice is Doc with TT running the D.

Doc has a hold on the, I hate to use this word, "intangibles" with this team and if he was not in control of this team, it would have hurt the team immmensely.

The OP's point, whether he wants to admit it or not, is that Doc isn't the greatest coach, so a better coach than Doc that could get better results? The problem with that thinking is that it is quite possible that the team maximized it's performance, in both the regular season and post season, under Doc. It's quite possible that a perceived better coach, i.e. Larry Brown or Jerry Sloan, would not have won 66 regular season games or the world championship with this group.

Doc, as I have said from the very beginning, isn't the greatest x's and o's coach or does he have the best ideas about rotations. But he teaches and motivates and has a finger on the pulse of his team better than just about any other guy in the league. His team always gives him just about everything they have. That is extremely unusual in today's age of spoiled basketball player.

Roy is right. Doc was the best man for the job and he remains the best man for the job.

Besides, not only did this team grow as a team as the year went on but so did Doc. His play calling during the year and into the playoffs got better and is now solid. His rotations sucked and by the end were very good. His in game adjustments got quicker and better the longer the playoffs went on. Doc hadn't and hasn't peaked as a coach yet. I think that's fairly evident from watching this past postseason.

Doc is our man in the driver's seat and he should remain there. I don't think anyone, and I mean anyone, can do a better job than what he did or what he will be doing.
