1st:  Desagana Diop-  excellent defensive presence and role player who can be an excellent big man off the bench, with powe, Perkins and KG we will have an unstoppable rotation at 4 and 5

2nd:  James Jones-  Just heard he is exercising free agency.  Excellent defender and stellar role player, plays well in big games too (see the Pacers Celtics 1st round series in 2004, remember the block on Ricky Davis?)

3rd:  Resign Posey and House.  If we fill out our team with role players after that then I will feel a whole lot better about our team for next year.

Unless you own a time machine...yes I believe you are alone on that one. Alone on an island.

He's not the savvy hard worker "little things" guys he once was.

Instead he's an injury-plagued flopper.

My guys are R. Swift, M. Barnes, and T. Lue.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
We still haven't adressed our need for a backup at the point.

House isn't the answer.

Remember we had to have PP and Ray bring the ball up when House was out there. When properly pressured Ray is prone to turning the ball over, and don't want Pierce to try and do too much all the time.

I agree that I'd like to see a better option at the PG than House, but I'm a lot less concerned about it next year than I was this year.  Rondo's the real deal and should play more minutes next year.

people wrote off house before he came here. with a legit shot at a ring, i'm sure he can sort himself out.

as for the back-up point, i believe sam will stay on and that will be that.

swift would be nice - but can he stay injury-free?

ideally i would like the following:

sam re-signs - there i said it.
house re-signs.
posey re-signs.
sign up james jones or bostjan nachbar if we pass on tony allen.
sign up diop or swift. or both.

Boki? I like Boki

He's not better than Posey. Probably best to stick with the defensive orientated veteran winner spot shooter formula. But for teams outside of Boston ..... I like Boki. Underrated player. Could help somebody. Be interesting to see what he costs.

Danny should sign James Jones on as long a deal as possible. Good defensive player. Great perimeter shooter. Smart. Plays his role to perfection. Great 8th man. On this Celtics team he'd be able to play a bigger role if needed.

I'm amazed James Jones opted out. He had 3mil on the table for next season. I don't see how he makes more than that, he won't make more than that. I think he's looking at 1-2mil per annum. If he gets to the 2-3mil range I'd be impressed.

I like James Jones. Very good role player. Every team in the league should be looking to sign this guy.

If we don't get Posey, I would definitely like to get Jones for 3 years/$12M.

I read that as Jerome James quickly, and was thinking, don't let him get anywhere near this team, or Big Baby

I think Posey is going to need the full MLE, knocking us out of the free agency sweepstakes for all players looking for 2+ million per year.

If Posey sticks around for a 120% re-up on his current deal, i'd love to see the C's persue Diop with most or all of the MLE.

i think the C's are going to be looking for discount players after the dust settles.  :-\

I don't think Jones would cost that much. I think you'd have a very good shot at getting him on a 10mil 4 year contract.

If all our FAs left my ideal replacements would start with:

Duhon, Ross, Mourning

2nd tier:

Dooling, Evans, Diop

3rd:

A. Johnson, Najera, a crap shoot at the 5.... Mutombo? Turiaf? Kwame (if he took the minimum)?

1. Sign Posey

2. Sign House

3. Sign a big.

4. If #1 doesn't happen sign Biedrins or Barnes or Wells

5. If #2 doesn't happen sign Dooling or Lue

6. Sign Roger Mason no matter what. He'll be cheap and he's a 6'5" PG that can score and has a good handle and floor presence.

7. Depending on what is left to do, sign vet minimums to fill in needs.
