I was wondering what you guys think about Gabe Pruitt and the possibility of him making an impact next year with the Club?

Pruitt enjoyed great success this year in the NBDL and I think he made great strides in improving his game this past year. Ainge was very high on him last year after he drafted him early in the second round, and Pruitt enjoyed some success at the NBA level last year when he got the call up. Do you guys think it is a possibility that he is used off the bench this year to back up the one and/or two for the Celtics next year?

I don't know, I hope so, but I think we will have a much better idea after seeing what happens the next few weeks. If Danny goes for a point guard in the draft or free agency then it means he doesn't think Pruitt will be useful next year. On the otherhand, if Sam and/or House don't return and we don't look for a replacement then it would mean they have the confidence in Pruitt to contribute.

Pruitt will probably be the 3rd string PG during the regular season. And if he doesn't step up when he gets the call, he'll be replaced with a different 3rd stringer before the playoffs start.

That being said, I think he'll do very well in his role and hold that 3rd string spot.

Ya I see Pruitt being giving the chance to play this upcoming year so he can prove himself to Danny Ainge and the coaching staff. I think it is safe to say that Cassell won't be back this upcoming season and I doubt the Celtics draft another point guard with Pruitt in the system. They could possibly sign a point guard like they did with Sam but that still gives Pruitt the chance to play.

I really like this kids game and I think Ainge sees something special in him after drafting him high in the second round and I don't think they will waste that after just one year.

He should get he chance to move up to the 12 man active roster if he plays well enough.

Let's be realistic here.  Pruitt showed less promise than Orien Greene did in his sting here, and what is Greene doing today?

He didn't get the opportunity Greene got.

Greene played for a lotto team with injuries at PG.

Pruitt played on what turned out to be deep championship team.

TP.

The only chance Pruitt got this year was to play in the NBDL. What did he do in the NBDL? He averaged over 18 points per game. I really think that Pruitt will be given a chance this upcoming year. You don't waste an early second round pick after one year especially one that was placed on a Championship roster.

the club disagrees with you. all reports are the Celtics were quite impressed with gabe's development, and all indications are he will be given an opportunity to earn a spot on the 12 man roster this season.

as to sam saying he'll be back- thats nice, but i haven't heard it from danny one way or another, and last i checked, he's in charge.

sam was on a one year deal, its not really entirely up to him (one would hope) about weather he will be back. its up to the club.

The only reason Pruitt even makes the 2008-2009 roster is because 2-3rds of the 2006-2007 roster was traded away or cut.  Pruitt wouldn't have made the 2006-2007 roster. I don't see anything impressive about him from his play in either league.  He's no better than Allan Ray.

Then why was Allen Ray let go even though there was an open roster spot?

We haven't seen Pruitt enough to make that decision.  How many 2nd round rookies were ou expecting to play this past season?

wow! what are you basing that on exactly? We haven't even seen him play any real NBA minutes yet. As for Sam, I find it fascinating that a guy who was as bad as he was this year is stating with assurance that he will be back. He must either know something we don't or he is even more arrogant than I imagined.

Actually I thought Pruitt looked good in his TINY NBA garbage time stints. That being said we don't really know much about how this guy will fare in the NBA. Also Danny might draft another PG/SG if that's the best player available in the draft. Danny is not afraid to draft away from NEED.

Ya, I hope I'm wrong.  I guess one area where I could see Pruitt fitting in is as an Eddie House-type sharp shooter.  Other than that, though, Pruitt doesn't show much.  He's not a true PG, and too small to play the 2.  I always fall back on the fact that if a guy is good, he shows it from day 1 (Pierce, Big Al, Rondo, Joe Johnson).  When you watch a good player in summer league you can tell he's special.  Pruitt showed me as much as Forte and Kedrick Brown, and even less than Gerald Green.

Again, I hope I'm wrong.  We shall see.
