The second the trade was announced, I put them at the top of the heap to win the title.  I figured like this:

Rondo/Allen/Pierce/Garnett/Perk is like a steroid version of the KG/Cassell/Sprewell team of 2003-04.  It was the same format: 3 scorers, 3 defenders (with KG being the 3rd of each) with all 4 positions upgraded.  The 03-04 team was the #1`seed in a stacked West and a Cassell injury away from a title.  There was no WAY, barring injury, that this team shouldn't have won the title.

As soon as the trade was announced, I immediately found a way to get some money on the Celtics winning the title.

When the KG trade went down you there was a ton of anticipation.  The beauty of this team was that they constantly kept reminding you at every stage how special they were.  There was a running check list of "we'll really know for sure they're great if the can do this __________" and they would always fill in the next blank.

That's funny, I always thought of the team as Detroit on steroids - basically a bunch of guys who played hard and like super role players - but with 3 guys who were better than anyone on Detroit.  But I see where you're coming from there.

as soon as the trade was announced i wanted to find a place to get good celtics information and talk to people who are also celtics fans, and thus i came to celticsblog. a couple weeks later i started my first year of college, took a class called Athletes, Fans, and Society. My first paper was on greatness in sports. (I go to a Nichols College, a business school, and we have to write from a business perspective) In my paper i wrote how the celtics were going to use the big trades to their advantage to sign key role players(Posey, House, Pollard all signed shortly after), i wrote that they were going to return to the glory days, and i wrote that it was all thanks to Danny Ainge sticking with his five year plan which he announced in the beginning when he was hired. I think a lot of people forgot about that over the hard times, but boy did he deliver. I also predicted the Celtics would get atleast 60 regular season wins, and win in the NBA finals, and that Danny would win executive of the year. I also may have gone a little overboard in the end in saying that Danny should be in the Hall of Fame as an executive for the moves hes made, but maybe not, time will tell. The paper got an A- which i thought was a pretty good grade for my first college paper ever, it also got me a conversation with my professor about how he interviewed Pete Rose and how he thinks Pete should be in the baseball Hall of Fame. So long story short, i knew from the beginning.

I knew this was gonna be a special season on the first game of the season.  I went to Boston to my brother's place and we all gathered up with a bunch of friends and watched the game on this huge HD TV while drinking.  Afterwards we went to a bar where apparently I was trying to pick up chicks with my Celtics monkey.  The thing is I have 100% memory of everything that was going on during the game.  I didnt miss a beat, and I ended up having a forgettable night afterwards (which I havent done since).  Anyway, after having a great night (it was funny just hearing the crazy stuff I did) and a great weekend overall, I knew this was gonna be a special season.  I wrote a whole topic on this season being special- http://www.celticsblog.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=64&topic=20062.msg312176#msg312176

It's the first weekend since #17, and watching all the interviews and recaps has got me thinking back over the course of the season, and how I viewed the team over the course of the year.

The KG trade was huge of course; I wasn't on the board then and have been kinda shocked to see the negative responses it got at the time, but I was thrilled to hear about it.  And after the 20 pt win over Washington on opening night I texted a bunch of friends to tell them that the C's were winning the title this year.

But the first time I really felt like this would be a special year was after the win over Denver in the 3rd game of the season.  I was "watching" on ESPN GameCast and the Celtics absolutely destroyed a Nuggets team that at the time was considered a dark horse to take the West.  The score was 77-38 at the half, and we shot 65% for the game.  After that game I ponied up for League Pass for the first time ever (not an easy decision on a grad student's salary) and watched every game for the rest of the year.

When did some of you folks begin to feel the same?  Looking back, did you have a sense about how good this team would be, or did you stay a little reserved until the championship was assured?

I totally see what you're saying because I was feeling that too.  I was at home, watching the game by myself and I can honestly tell you that even up to this day, that's gotta be the most flawless game I have EVER seen.  The offense was in complete sync and the D was just amazing.
Baby Jesus!
