i was very vocal on this board about my strong doubt that Glenn Davis would ever be an effective NBA player. At the time i thought that he was too small, had short arms, couldnt jump, and didnt have an jumper consistent enough to be effective at this level.
While i still believe most of what i wrote after he was drafted, the truth is that despite all of these shortcomings, he has proven me wrong.
he has shown that for whatever he lacks in size or skill, he makes up for in his determination and hard work.

i trashed him so much here at CB, that i feel obligated to say congrats to BBD. you have proven me wrong, and i couldnt be happier. good luck in what we all hope will be a long career.

i said a lot of good things about Gabe Pruitt. I think he is a legit NBA PG and will really step it up when given the chance. its time for him to prove me right!!!

Being from Louisiana and a big LSU fan, I watched Davis play his entire college career. He got shots blocked in college and had trouble with any inside game. I never thought he'd be an effective NBA player. I was wrong too and I'm glad that I was. Credit to Big Baby for his work to make himself a player in this league.

Too smart, too skilled, too much heart .... always was going to be an impact player at this level. I was delighted we got him in the Ray Allen deal. Great steal. I'm actually disappointed in his rookie season, he could have done more and should have done more. It'll be interesting to see where his career goes from here.

On second thought, I ought
to give you a Tommy Point.
When people admit they're
wrong, it shows a great strength
in their character.
So here you go: TP!

I felt the same to Doc so I myself made a bit of an apology/good job.
Davis' skill set is great, I was saying trade Powe (who I like) earlier in season.
Main thing with Davis ,who I expect more from next year, will be if he can give us minutes at C.  Of course he & Powe could be traded since they have some good value now.............

To be completely honest even if I like him. I'm still not sure if he'd be as good if he wasn't on this team.
I like Powe  more than BBD.

i like BBD, and i think we should keep him, along with Powe, House, and posey for sure - the more floor time he gets, the better he'll be
There are many lies, but only one Truth.

i'm more of a powe fan. i may be the only one here that doesn't like bbd, but i'm not just not very fond of the guy. he doesn't seem like he has a great career in front of him like powe does. he's too short with a tiny wingspan to do anything on defense, and i can't help but cringe every time he gets his shot blocked.

Become Legendary.

zerophase, "i'm more of a powe fan. i may be the only one here that doesn't like bbd, but i'm not just not very fond of the guy. he doesn't seem like he has a great career in front of him like powe does. he's too short with a tiny wingspan to do anything on defense, and i can't help but cringe every time he gets his shot blocked."

I'm not a fan of either player, but I agree that Powe should have no trouble staying in the NBA.  If Eric Williams can play in the league all of those years, Powe should be able to do so.  Powe has a much better offensive potential than Eric Williams.  The only thing wrong with him is his lack of height.  Too bad the guy isn't 6'10", but if he were, we would not be able to afford him.

I cannot say the same for Davis.  Not only is he short, but he's also have a tendency to continue having to battle with his weight.  I believe he can play competently at times, despite his weight.  But you don't want someone who can only play during certain situations in that PF/C position.  Now, if he were a 3-point specialists (like Hodges many years ago) who can be inserted in the game during certain situations only, then fine.  But he is a PF/C!  Can we only play him when the other Center is also short?  BBD played hard defense against the soft Gasol, but as we saw, Gasol shot over him with comfortable ease.  So maybe BBD can only play in those games when Perk is on the floor and the other team has an opposing player who either doesn't score much or can't shoot over BBD.  But the question you have to ask is, "why play him at all when you've already got Powe?"  Realistically, what can Davis offer that Powe cannot?

All these apologies being said.

Do any of you think Davis would have been even 50% as effective on lets say, last years Celtic team?

I think he would have been blocked 40% of the time last year.  Remember how often powe got blocked last year, the difference for Powe was, he was so quick he'd get it back and go up again.

  • Let them hate, as long as they fear
If I have to choose between BBD and Powe. Powe stays. BBD is too short to be a PF. If we keep him, he should lose not less thsan 25 lbs. Grrowing 2 more inches would certainly help him. I just dont see him having a productive career. Just too short. He would laso have to develop an 18 ft. shot. Cant jump much. Larry couldnt jump much either, but he wasnt paid to jump. BBD is.
And someday in the midst of time,
When they ask you if you knew me
Remember that you were a friend of mine

I like Powe, but he does absolutely NOTHING better offensively than EW.

EW had a post game, an amazing first step before his injury, and developed a serviceable 3 point shot late in his career.

He averaged 15 pts a game in his second season for the Cs...and was averagihg 20 pts game (albeit in 4 games) for Denver before the injury.
