Scali

Just imagine how much lower the Lakers could go if he dominated them from the start.   ;D

It could be literally anybody who starts in his place: Brown, Powe, etc. But personally, I would start either Posey or Scal (yes, Scal). Scal hasn't played in years but spreads the floor and the Lakers first need to find an answer for him. He can also guard either Gasol or Odom.

The problem is not who starts but who plays his minutes (PJ should start; start big and then see what happens, as someone already suggested).

Play Powe against Turiaf and Walton, not when Kobe, Odom and Gasol are in the floor together. When Tony was injured, I said that Scal could do a good job defending their forwards. Is he confident enough to take the open shots? I don't know about Big Baby... Coming crunch time, go with Posey at the 4.

when i hear people touting scal, the only phrase i can think of is "abscence makes the hart grow fonder."

c'mon guys, scal? he spreads the fllor, then he misses a three pointer. plus he has not played for a long time. powe, davis, or brown.

my guess? after seeing rondo and pierce play though injuries (as well as himself), perk gives it a go in game 5. his minutes will be limited, but he gives 10-15 minutes, no different than game 4.

Question for mods -- If someone posts something completely ridiculous, like having Scal do anything but sit on the bench in a sports jacket and jeans, can we somehow take away Tommy Points?

I remember one of Edgar`s posts last year during the off-season about who should play Center for the Celtics. I couldn`t find it with the search tool, but it was something along the lines of

" A starting lineup of Rondo, Allen, Pierce, Garnett and

could win a championship"

sums it up

I think the Big 3 and any two guys from the local Y could win a championship

Nope.  Or else we'd have some in-house fighting ;)

who starts if perk is out is kind of a no-brainer question - why go away from what was working in the last game?

go with garnet at center and posey at pf - sure he's a bit undersized but he spreads the floor on offense like perk and pj can not do.

until rondo is confident in his outside shot, he and perk should never be on the floor at the same time.  It allows too much doubling off of those two.  Our big 3 were playing like they were stuck in mud until doc opened up the floor for them by playing offensive players who could spread the floor.

Playing Posey eliminates that problem to some degree more than any other player that we have as presently constituted.

Hehe. Well, you can go the affirmative action way and give TPs to those who agree with you. Pass me, because I don't.

I've said before the series that Scal could be a minute filler if our bigs get in extreme foul trouble and I still think that way. I'm not looking for stats, but I'm sure they'd tell us that Scal does a good enough job defending some kind of forwards in the league. And he's a 9 years veteran, with 400 games or something under his belt. If Doc feels confident he won't pass the open shots, I wouldn't mind having Scal in the floor for 7/8 minutes on Sunday.

I agree, save the small ball for the end of the game.  Posey has outsmarted odom so far, but defending him down low is a tough task to ask of him.

I like powe to start, as the celts seem to get better when they get out and run.  When the subs come in, they could slow it down and buy some time till the stars come back.

Brown has the scoring to contribute without the big 3 on the court by playing off whatever aggressive scorer is on the court.

Plus, the biggie.

Powe causes odom problems

and brown is better suited for turiaf.

Even though most Scali references are jokes, what happened to the Celtics when they went to Scali to replace KG?

So instead of banging on other posters and Scali, remember how good the team played when he started for KG.

It's easier to start Scal next to Perk than KG. Defensively you have Perk's muscle and overall heft in the paint. Offensively you have more room on the perimeter for Scal to float so spacing is better. Scal and KG together is workable (if KG lives in the post and shoulders all the interior defense) but not ideal. Scal and Perkins is a good match.

Someone like Glen Davis would give Kevin more freedom to play help defense and for Kevin to move to whatever offensive spots he wants to take up.

I am in no way supporting starting Scals, but it would be really sweet, if he played, and played well.  For him to come in and help in a clincher would be a nice story.

Then again, calling in a 39 year old, overweight blogger, with an outstanding low post game for a six footer and a career 100% 3-point FG shooting mark at Emerson College would make for a hell of a story too.  If I left now I could make it there for tip off.

That's Redz...R-E-D-Z if the uniform makers need help spelling my name - and I'm taking #38 cause it's my favorite #.

Equal chances on both me and Scals getting the start.
