First of all, I'm not a fan of either team, but I'm a fan of the NBA.

I've been noticing that it appears the Celtics don't respect any of the Lakers(outside of Kobe Bryant)From the speeches from Doc Rivers, to the body language of the players, there seems to be a collective agreement that the Lakers don't belong in the same building as the Celtics.

I have watched this Lakers team and do not think they're just going to bend over a barrel for you guys. I wouldn't be shocked if they took it back to Boston up 3-2. It's going to be a real test to win one in Boston. I see this series going 7 games, and it's up in the air who will win it all. Kobe could go off and win a game by himself in Boston, but it's unlikely if they swarm him defensively like they have in previous games.

With that said, what's most fans view on this situation? Do you not have any respect for this Lakers squad? Or do you think this series is pretty much wrapped up for Boston and it's only a matter of time?

Um, ok. Nobody  has respected the Celtics in this series until they won both at home. Now the Celtics apparently don't respect the
Lakers? There are 2 games left to be played in LA, a little to soon to come to that conclusion.

 ???

I wasn't talking about the media. I know there's been a lot of NBA analyst or buffoons predicting the Lakers would win this series.

I'm talking about the Celtics as a group. Do you think they respect the Lakers? I certainly don't. Doc Rivers is the one who makes it clear cut obvious from his locker room "motivational speeches"

If anything LA is the ones who don't respect the C's. After games what have been the excuses for the Lakers not winning the 1st 2 games: Ref, the rims, PP apparently 'faking an injury, Kobe missing 'bunnies' ...Not that the Celtics played good.

The series isn't over. I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that the Celts will win, especially with the knocks to Paul and Perk and Rondo. Any of the big 3 could go into a shooting slump. But if the Celts play reasonably well they'll win unless the Lakers play their absolute best ball or the refs really like LA.

LA hasn't done anything in this series to earn their respect. :P

I seriously believe they do respect them, but I don't think it goes both ways. Like what was said above the lakers don't give any respect for the wins that boston had over them. Its always some other factor as to why they lost.

its not a matter of respect, the Celtics are just better than the Lakers and the lakers are starting to question themselves. Doc just tries to motivate his players cause supposedly it destiny for the Lakers to win the title this year.

I think LA players respect the Celtics too much. Look at how Pau Gasol goes us weak when he's guarded by KG or Perkins. Same for Odom, he looks intimidated out there. How isn't that a sign of respect? I don't understand. The game 2 was pretty much some of the best "home cooking" I've seen in awhile, you cannot refute that. If it was against a team I rooted for, I would've been pretty PO'd myself.

All in all I think the Lakers soft play is really making the Celtics overlook them as a real threat. I personally feel both teams are equally as talented, but with HCA, I see the Celtics pulling this one out.

The veterans among the Celtics most surely respect the Lakers.  I think they realize that this series is a lot closer than what most people think.  Before the first game, and now after three games.  The two games in Boston were winnable for the Lakers.  Game 3 was winnable for the Celtics.  The games were closer than the final scores.  And it's not just because the teams are competitive with one another.  It's also the Celtics' Big 3 tendency to lose their offense for an entire game from time to time.  The games against Atlanta, Cleveland, and Detroit would have been much easier if Ray Allen's offense had not been MIA.  There's just as much pressure on KG and Pierce as there are on Gasol and Odom after last night's game.

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
Sure I think they respect them.  They know they're a good opponent.  If you don't like Doc saying "we're better than this team", what would you prefer him to say instead?  That between the Lakers and the officials, the Celts don't have a chance?

Doc is trying to inspire and build confidence.  I've got no problem with that.  I have no doubt, though, that the coaching staff and the players game plan like they respect them.

As for me personally, no, I have no respect for this Lakers team.  They're decent, but they're not dominant, and they're much too whiny for me to appreciate them.

Celtics have been jobbed by the refs to much this playoffs to have any sympathy for that imo.

I agree with you Kimbo - the Lakers are certainly intimidated by the Celtics (minus Kobe, of course), and the Celtics fear no one on the Lakers except Kobe.

The C's have had that air of "confidence" about them all year, regardless of their opponent, which is why all us fans love them and why the rest of the league's fans hate us.  Call it hubris, lack of respect, whatever it may be, but the reality is our Big 3 are better than just about anyone in the league individually, and collectively they along with the coaches have gotten the whole team to believe that they are better as a team than every team in the league.

God bless and good night!

I think it is a good thing to have confidence in yourself and the team. Not a bafd thing at all

I don't think that really matters.  The Celtics respect the SITUATION that they are in.  They know that they are 2 wins away from fulfilling a lifelong dream, there is NO WAY they are going to assume that they can just show up and win.  Also, there's no chance that they are assuming that they'll be back next year, so the urgency isn't that great.  They KNOW there are no guarantees and they will leave it all out on the court.

That said, I know I respect the Lakers and I really think the Celtics and Doc do too.  You HAVE to tell your team you are the better team and can win ... Phil does the same.

Wow I wasn't going to comment but then I said what the heck.  From my point of view it's the Lakers who don't respect the Celtics. All you have to do is look at the post game comments after each team lost a game.  From the Lakers point of view they blame the Refs and are guys were flopping.  After last night game Paul Pierce said "It's the way [the Lakers] played," Pierce said. "They were very aggressive, especially Kobe early."

Given the reason why the Lakers won the game "I thought they were the more aggressive team all night," Rivers said. "To me that was the reason."

No crying about the refs, no talk about what we did wrong.  All the Cs did was respect the Lakers and give them credit for the win.  Now do the Celtics think they are the better team? Yes and why shouldn't they before last night game they was 4-0 vs the Lakers this season.  To say your better is not being disrespectful.
