If the NBA was going to fix the Finals... Don't you think LA would be up 2-0 right now? I mean, after all if David Stern had it his way the Lakers would play the Lakers every year in the Finals.

The Lakers defense is a freaking joke and it was exposed the first two games. The C's can get wherever they want and then draw the foul.

I don't think NBA has a fix on the final. However, the refs will have to give an appearent of fairness.

Regarding your comment on Lakers defense:

I think the reverse should be true. I believe they try to do too much on defense but they really do not have the players to do it.

Instead of playing more defense, they actually should gameplan for more offense. In Q4 yesterday, Philip Jackson finally went with VladRad as their 4.

your kidding right? you played atrocious defense yesterday. Your bigs won't bang, thats why guys like leon are dominating against the lakers. leon's entire game is to out work the opposing bigs. it didnt work in Clev and detroit, there not soft. against you guys he's had a major impact in two games with short minutes.

pierce embarresed rad, to the point that they had to swap kobe onto paul with 3 fouls. that slowed pierce down a bit, but opened up the middle for powe and others because kobe couldn't chase ray on screens. thus, you guys had to swap to follow him, and bigs were chasing allen out to the three point line.

if you honestly think your defense was good yesterday, i hope phil shares your opinion. be nice to win game 3 too.

unfortuanly i think phil realizes your guys problems start on the defensive end and will correct them a bit.

Here's a hint for the Lakers defense, you might want to run Paul Pierce off the 3 point line every once in awhile.  They've been awful covering him the first two games.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

I do have to admit that although I saw a few calls that did go our way in the first half and a few non calls that we benefitted from, I was shocked when towards the end of the first half Breen said the Celtics outshot the Lakers at the charity stripe by a 19-2 margin.

Say what you want about the agressiveness and all but if that number was the other way around, this site would have been up in arms. What Lakers fans and Uncle Phil aren't mentioning is the 19-8 second half discrepency in FTAs.

Numbers?  How about 31 assists on 36 baskets.  How about 53% from the field and 64% from behind the line.  The Celts had one more rebound and one more turnover.  Those numbers aren't really screaming good LA defense.  Three of the Celts' turnovers were on illegal screens on either KG or Perk, not really due to any stifling Lakers D.

I reread you post. I think you misunderstood what I am saying. I believe the Lakers should not concentrate too much defense in a way similar to the Celtics.

Instead, they should concentrate on their offense. The Lakers is an offensive team.

In Q4, Philip move VladRad to 4 and benched Odom. With Gasol, Kobe and 3 3point shooter, Kobe has a lot of space to move. If Perkins or PJ Brown beat VladRad on defense. So be it.

VladRad on Pierce is a big mismatch. But VladRad on Brown, what do you think?

I am saddend by the fact that this league has come to this. Think about what we are all worried about. It's a problem for this league when the fans are more worries about how the game is going to be called then how their team is going to play. We had more FT's because we were more aggressive and played in the paint which LA did not do. This is why we had more FTA then they did.

Last night was not a screw job. We didn't get away with hacking excessivly on D nor did the calls going against LA stop momentum. But this sport has to do something to take the refs out of the picture because we have all seen on sided games in these playoffs(this was not on of them). The refs need to call the game according to the rules and not dictate what is going to be a foul and not on a nightly basis. It realy has taken the enjoyment out of the game for me as a fan. I wish I could get more excited about game 3, but in reality I can't becaue you know that it will be a much wider disparity there than it was here. I see us losing game 3 and winning game 4 and having a shot at closing it out in 5.
Back to wanting Joe fired.

I'm pretty sure LA doesn't control the defensive matchups when they're on offense. With that sub, we're more likely to have Posey on the floor than PJ Brown.

Breen cried about it all game. Every once in a while you can see his anti Celts bias. to their credit Jackson and Van Gundy usually call him on it. Like the PJ Brown hard foul call against the Pistons.

I was hoping Jackson would again say "your better than that Mike Breen".

The Lakers were called for 7 more fouls than the C's. Not a huge disparity... The diff. in FTs is because the Lakers are a jump shooting team and we played Powe...
Now, on to 18...

The officials didn't cost LA the game.

The Lakers weren't aggressive enough. Their defense was TERRIBLE, and they mostly just shot jump shots all game long. Even Phil Jackson admitted as much a couple sentences into his post game comments. Phil is just angling for more calls in game 3. He does this all the time.

Boston is stronger, faster, and more aggressive at almost all positions.

For 36 minutes of the game, The Celtics layed a 87-56 beat down on the Lakers.

Then the Celtics took a mental vacation in the opening 6 minutes and the closing 6 minutes and were outscored 46-17 and had to make 4 FT in the final minute to hang on.

Nice walk by Radman in the last two minutes.

The Celtics have had similar problems in the previous three series of lapses and managed to come back from all of them. I think the Celtics will keep going and find two more wins.

really? what part of the stats doesn't support my argument?

rebounds= wash. you tunred the ball over 7 more times than your season average. points in the paint favored the c's.

Way to dodge the actual question with a stats attempt with no link.

How do you account for the uncontested 3's all night from pierce? rad playing good d? how about a bench player, who we all love here, but a guy who was ineffective for 3 series absoulutly dominating you inside for 2 games?

clev and detroit didn't have any problem with leon, because they play defense inside. They don't back away and whine for contact or, better yet, watch a guy dribble from half court and not stop the ball while he jams it down thier throats.

yea the problem with that is, you are trying to play good offense, we are just a much better defensive team than you've seen yet.

and, when you don't play defense, all we need to do is marginaly slow you down to have a good chance to win.

and right now, you are playing the worst defense ive seen all playoffs, and that includes an atlanta team i thought was marginal at best.

It would be interesting to see if LA takes a stab at replicating what they did in the 4th and just came out gunning like a Westhead team.  Are they that desperate?  Plan A doesn't seem to be working so hot.
Yup
