I thought early on a cased could be made that the reffing was pro Celtic. I thought it was pro Laker at the end of the game. However Boston was getting the calls on drives and plays under the basket, its pretty hard not to call those expecially when the Lakers were doing it so blatently.

Paging Bennett "The Rat" Salvatore.
I will bet my house that he is officiating in game 3.

Did the Celtics loosen up those rims for the Lakers in the 4th quarter just to to make it interesting?

wicked funny. i think the switched them. during a tv tomeout, a maintenance man took down the cheating rims, put up the legal rims, figuring the game was over. he would have been fired had the C's lost!  ;D

J.A. Adande wrote an article discussing the refs, however he says it was bad both ways....

Fair assessment.  Even though the refs was favored towards the Celtics, I expect us to be quite angry over the next week with the reffing in LA so I'm not going to sympathize with the Lakers fans.  Next week, get ready for a steady diet of blown-calls-that-could-have-changed-the-game-for-us.

I didn't see any unusually bad or one sided calls, do they think Kobe should be allowed to elbow Ray because he's playing GOOD defense?  The problem for the Lakers is they are not used to playing defense and now when they have to they are fouling because they are not good at it.  Keep in mind the only reason Powe was able to draw so many fouls was because Perkins was on the bench in foul trouble.

Just a guess but the outrage over the officiating will be in prime form on this site after Tuesday night's game. I few things I think we can guarantee will happen:

Perk will be on the bench with 2 fouls before the 9:00 mark of the first quarter.

The Celtics will be in the penalty by the 7:00 mark of the first quarter.

2 of the 3 Big Three will sit significant minutes in this game due to foul trouble.

Kobe will be at the line at least 15 times.

It will take til sometime deep in the third quarter for someone on the Lakers to amass their third foul. At least two Celtics will already have four fouls already called against them.

Either one or all of the following referees will be on hand Tuesday night: Bennett Salvatore, Violet Palmer, Leon Wood.

The Lakers were down 12 to start the third and after seeing the discrepancy of calls in the first half the refs gave them every ticky tack foul under the sun to start the second half.  The Celts were in the penalty with about 6 minutes left.  The Lakers then turned the ball over and kept shooting jumpers.  That was there fault for not taking advantage of the refs giving them the calls.

As fans on this blog we have been on the refs all season and especially playoffs long.  I agree with the posts that say we know when they are bad both ways.  The refs weren't bad last night, the calls seemed to favor the Celts, but there have been so many games when they were bad in the other teams' favor so I don't feel bad about it at all.

The difference between these teams comes between the excuses being made not by the fans, but by the players and the coaches.  The Celtics have never whined and moaned after a game like the Lakers did last night.  We have had chances to use the refs as an excuse but refused to.  The unfortunate part is that since Phil and Kobe were leading the parade and the refs have become a story the Lakers will get every call in Game 3.  Fortunately this is nothing the Celtics aren't used to and having to fight through to get a W, especially on the road.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

I thought in the first half, the game was slanted a bit in favor of the Celts.  The Lakers weren't getting the same benefit of the doubt that we were, on either side of the ball.

In the second half, as many predicted, that dynamic shifted, with the Lakers being the beneficiaries of the borderline calls.

Overall, the game was probably on balance officiated slightly in the Celtics favor, but not enough to make the difference.  The Lakers got beat because they played very poorly from midway through the first to midway through the fourth.

Why isn't there any fines being assessed.

The league usually has a short fuse with complaints regarding officials.

I don't think the complaining and griping will really help the Lakers. I'm hoping anyway that this causes the officials to have a little animosity toward them. I noticed they were awfully quick to give Kobe the tech last night. I don't think they like the Lakers bashing their integrity.

I agree with most of your observation. But the 2nd half call is too little too late.

However, in terms of number, it is not slightly favor the Celtics. As it turns out, Celtics actually need almost every single one of them, and they were the difference of the game.

FT attempts: LA 10, Boston 38
Fouls: LA 28, Boston 20.

What a load!  The C's shot more freethrows because we drove the ball.  The Refs were TERRIBLE on both sides!  Kobe is the biggest whiner I have ever watched.  Every single play he gets that look like my 2-year old when he doesn't get what he wants.

I used to think Phil Jackson was a class act, but he is unreal so far this series.  All because of the refs apparently.  No responsibility of his terrible rotations.  No responsibility of their awful defense.  These Laker fans are way worse homers that we could ever be and they should remember that they were destined for the Islands this post season before Wallace handed them their playoff ticket.

Bottom line, Kobe is a LOSER defined as:

Loser:
A player who, when winning, cannot give credit to others and, when losing, has to blame others.

Some of my favorite thoughts and theories floating around LakersGround...

- They are mad at the Celts bench for yelling at Sasha when shooting a three in front of them.  Some are calling for a technical, others just saying it's "unethical".

- ABC fixed the game which accredited for Leon's performance.  Since they ran that piece at halftime somehow they were in control of him running the Lakers ragged and dunking all over them.  Makes sense.

- They're mad at Adande for saying that Radmonivic traveled.  He did take 6 or 7 steps guys.

- Paul Pierce is a moron.  No reason given, in fact the OP admitted to liking him before this series.  Yeah I can see how his actions so far can make you go from liking him to making him a moron, all he's done is play great basketball.

- Lamar Odom is a joke and has to go.  Well I guess I can't disagree with all of their posts.

- Boston is a racist and homophobic city.  Yeahh that's original.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."
