True, that would be an unbelievable sign of disrespect and Plaschke should be ashamed of himself for taking shots at the deceased, whether he realizes he did or not. This article is nothing more than drivel, there is not a single element of analysis or thought involved, all this is is, "My team is better than your team, because they're my team." This is not journalism, and kind of bad form by the LA Times for publishing this, are their editors on vacation?

It's a mistake to compare the culture of any city to Boston or the New England area, especially when it's LA, a city made up of a lot of transplants from other parts of the country. This isn't to say that there aren't die hard born and raised Laker fans, but please look at who you are comparing them too. This is by far the largest most loyal sports fanbase of any city you will find, use your bald head Plaschke, and think before you type.

What say in the offseason shouldn't influence mvp voting.  All that matters is your performance in the regular season and Kobe Bryant was the best player in the league.

Kobe got it because it was a travesty he hadn't gotten it before (and im a die hard celtics fan, but that was ridiculous that he didn't win it before now.) and they didn't want to give it to a kid who was A) yet another PG and B) only in the league 3 years. I see the writers logic in doing it, and honestly have no problem with it, but paul was by far the more important player to his team.

While kobe was huge to the lakers, CP3 had no one. Now, your all going to say he has chandler and west, but before this season, no one thought those guys were anything like the stars their seen as now.

Kobe had fisher, odom, and a good bench. he also got a third allstar late in the season. If KG gets points off for pierce, then how can kobe not for playing with that cast?

i expect right around season 6 or 7, it won't matter what CP3's performance is, as long as he's up near the top he'll get a makeup lifetime achievement award, ala bryant from this year.

also, before laker fans go nuts on me, as i said, its fine with me that he won it, and he deserved one much earlier, but the award is a joke, it goes to whoever the writers feel is old enough and deserves it based on storylines, not facts. CP3 was the clear MVP Of this one season but kobe won it because he had gotten porked over by nash and deserved one about 3 years ago.

Chris Paul is a fabulous, fabulous basketball player and had a phenomenal year.  And Chandler and West were both highly touted young players who everyone knew would be quality nba starters.  Nobody in the league is as cold blooded as Kobe Bryant.  There are times like in games 1 and 5 of the WCF (I know playoffs don't count but it's a trait he's shown throughout his career regular season and playoffs, including many games this year) where he just decides his team isn't going to lose and the sheer force of his will and talent leads them to victory.  Chris Paul has yet to display this on the level Kobe has.

Seriously though, as others have alluded to, Plaschke is a hack, plain and simple. His goal is to irk people to the point where they're starting threads about it on their forum, so others click on the link, and so on. Getting upset by it is EXACTLY what he's going for.

I've known about Chandler since he was in 8th grade...he was averaging 9 boards a game off the bench the last two years in Chicago...West was a 20-10 guy last year and Peja is a 3 time all-star.

Kobe played half the season with either Kwame or Ronny Turiaf starting at center. People not knowing who CP3 was playing with that isn't a good basis for not giving KB the award.
