I got about 10 phone calls after the game, for years it was a joke that I was a Celtics fan, suddenly it's not so funny.

I have the exact same sentiments as you do..living outside of New England, for years it was funny that I would still cheer for those god-awful Celtics, but finally, it's all come to this. TP

I'm just glad the players aren't quitters as many in posters in this thread, throwing in the towel in the 3rd quarter being only down by 6. What a disgrace that was...

BudweiserCeltic:

I cannot speak for everyone who you call a "quitter", but I know what I was thinking...and I know what a lot of others were thinking. I never once thought the boys in green were out of this game for any reason other than yet another suckfest by the refs. That call on Pierce really shook some of us up after 19.5 games worth of their crap. I did later mention what a joy it was to be wrong about the Celtics not being able to win - best time to be wrong ever.

The refs still suck more than any refs have ever sucked before. I just hope Stern finally is fed up and says something to make it an honest finals.

Right up there with the Pistons fans clearing out down by two possession with a over a minute left.  I was not a happy camper in the 3rd, but I was mostly just ticked off that the Celtics were playing a pretty good game and getting totally hosed on a couple of calls (and I'm not a big blame it on the refs kinda guy either)

Yeah, what was that all about with the Piston's fans? They started leaving before the Billups 3 point play, right?

I'll admit it, I thought we wouldn't pull it out due to the refs during the third. I calmed down soon after.

I've been surpised by many of the reactions on the game threads regarding "throwing in the towel" type posts.

Why are posters making them so early in the game (in general, not just today)? Why make them when the game is close?

Can the poster not just say they're worried and that it doesn't look good?

Why say the C's cannot win and that the game is over in the first half or third quarter or even some early fourth quarter ones in close games?

I just cannot understand those posts. There's so much time left in so many of those games, so many possiblities in how the game unfolds.

Anyways each to their own way of enjoying the game.

I have been preaching positivity on these boards for the whole playoffs, but even I was dismayed by the refs in the third. I have seen refs ruin games on many occasions, I posted that I thought the game was fixed, that thinking may have been extreme, but had the Celtics lost, I am not sure how I would have felt. Salvatore was beyond terrible tonight and did his best to help Detroit win.

I have called out every poster who reacts like an alarmist, tonight I took a few posts got it out of my system, and then tried to rally for the C's, tonight it worked. I know how annoying it can be when everyone starts jumping ship, I guess tonight I ran to the bow but didn't jump.

BBBBBBOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSSTTTTTTTTTTOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNN BBBBBAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSKKKKKKKKKEEEEEEETTTTTTTBBBBBBBBAAAALLLLLLLL

Sorry, just had to get that one of my chest once.  Just finished my victory cigar, $3.80 never tasted so good.  I'm so glad we got past those Pistons.  I feel like even though we took 2 out of 3 during the regular season they were there hanging over us like a dark cloud.  They're gone, and it's on to the Lakers.  No obnoxious announcers, or fire flying out of hoops.  Just two great teams, great cities, great tradition, and two great atmospheres to play in.  It's not the Garden and the Forum, but these two arenas have been awesome all playoffs long, now it's for all the marbles.  Should be some kind of special.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

with the other Celtic teams (60's/70's/80's) i would hardly ever give up on them in a game. i was in atlanta the night Parish & the Celts rallied from 20+ down at the half to win.

but you must admit this team is easier to get discouraged with because they don't always seem to compete. this Celtic team (in the playoffs at least) have looked like they given up on themselves in a few tough road games - if they ever came to play at all.

so it's understandable that we would have given up the ghost last nite, what with the 4th quarter 10-point deficit and the bizarre officiating. last nite was a first for these Celtics in the playoffs - rallying in the 4th to win. let's hope they gained some confidence in themselves from this series.

one other thing - sure is nice not worrying about game 7 tomorrow.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce

I respectfully disagree ... though I usually agree with you, TS, this team, despite the lack of time playing together, has also come back from 15 or 20 points down this year and rallied from a defecit, more than once, and has exhibited just as much tenacity as any "new" team that I can remember.

They certainly don't have the maturity that a more experienced team has, (because of lack of time together), but they have proven that they have what it takes to rally and pull out a win when the odds are against them. They can also be their own worst enemy, but they have shown consistently that they have that extra "something" required to persevere.

However, I wholeheartedly agree with it being great to not have to play a game seven ... though I'm sure the NBA feels differently! (TP)
