Huge defensive plays by two members of our "non-existent" bench, Posey's steal and Perkin's block.  ;D

My hat is really off to James Posey. He took Billups right out of the fourth quarter. That's one of the best man-on-man defensive jobs I've seen in this league in awhile.

And that huge steal with 1:25 to go, that was a dagger.  Posey played so well I didn't notice Ray was out til just before he came back in.

Yep, good job... too bad he had that one awful play where he fell asleep.

Rondo made some big plays down the stretch. Big defensive play by Perkins at the end. Pierce was the steadying influence on the offensive end, getting inside and getting to the line. He's SO good at creating points in the paint, you almost wish he'd never take a jumper.

But Posey, man. That defense on Billups was textbook. I'm looking at it again in Tivo. Man, it was exquisite.

I was listening pretty hard and never did hear the supportive BEAT LA chant from the fairweather Pistons fans.

Can you believe they were leaving down 6?
Yup

Think there's any controversy whether they'll retire Pierce's jersey or not after this??

By Monday they'll remember that the Western Conference Lakers are the Devil and cheer us on.  I used to live in Michigan and I'm still a Tigers fan.  Good folks up that way.  I hate the way the Pistons play, but they take what the refs give them and they are successful as hell.  Props to Pistons and if any Pistons fans are still here, we welcome your thoughts and pray for your blessings!

my, my.  i don't know how this team does it. they are so difficult to watch sometimes, the way they struggle offensively - getting a basket is like pulling a tooth !!

the Celtics still don't quite feel for me like they used to ..... in the 60's, in the 70's, and in the 80's ........ and maybe those magical decades are lost forever and that's a different dynasty.

these guys, though, still wear the CELTICS jersey and they still play under those banners and still play for the same franchise that Red built.

And this 2008 series is for Red - maybe he's been over there on the bench during these playoffs to keep Doc from making too big of a mess of the team. laffs. and DJ will be roaming the backcourt during the Finals to keep Kobe in check.

It ocurred to me that these 2008 Celtics would do well to take a page out of the 1984 Celtics playbook and take the physical play to these Lakers who have been fast-breaking and prancing their way thru the West so far. I hope that for the Lakers Game 1 feels like they've hit a wall that they are not used to so far.

Take the physical play to the Lakers - pound them into dust on the boards and make them crawl thru quicksand on offense.

GO CELTICS - BEAT LA !!!!!
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce

Again, the Lakers have not been defended like we will defend them. Certainly not by the retirement home that is the San Antonio Spurs.

And they haven't had to defend a team like ours, either.

I like this matchup a lot. I think we've played better opposition in the playoffs, and I think we're more battle-tested. The media will be knob-slobbering the California pretty boys, and we'll be under the radar.

Bring on the Lakers.

Much love for Glenn tonight.  Ballsy moves keeping in KG that paid off.  Putting Posey on Billups won them the game in the fourth quarter.  Everyone stepped up big time, what a great team performance.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

  • TRANSFORMATION INTO CHAMPION COMPLETE!!!
Just like Doc said before the game, "We're the better team." Detroit good series, practice your flopping over the summer and maybe next year you can celebrate your 7th Eastern Conference Finals appearance in a row only to be beaten by the defending Champion Boston Celtics.

LA, hope you had fun celebrating last night, the fun is OVER.

Pierce will continue to go nuts, Ray is back big time, and KG can not be stopped, it's all uphill for him from here on out.

I got about 10 phone calls after the game, for years it was a joke that I was a Celtics fan, suddenly it's not so funny.
