With the continuation of Ray Allen's poor play, is it possible that Gabe Pruit sees more and more minutes over the next few years?

Cause the way I'm see it, and I'm sure many will agree with me, is that Gabe Pruitt is here to be the eventual replacement as the starting shooting guard on this team.

It definately depends on how Ray starts out next season, but if he continues to struggle, I wouldn't be surprised to see Pruitt out there a little sooner than expected.  I am excited though for next year anyway, cause I'm hoping Doc makes Pruitt a legit bench player for next year.

Thank goodness you're talking about next year.  I really thought this was going to be a call to activate Pruit - though he couldn't have done much worse than the PG play tonight.
Yup

that would be like feeding him to the wolves.
In my opinion, he would be pressing to fill the void of Ray. Just play Ray, Celtics arent paying him 15 mill a year for him to sit out in the playoffs. All that money he cant even buy a jumpshot right now.

Haha keep in mind, I'm not talking about playing Pruitt in these playoffs.  I'm talking about increasing minutes next year and definately the year after.

If Pruitt is on the team, of course he gets more minutes, even if he can't replace Ray.

I was under the impression the Celtics were grooming Pruitt to be a PG. I think he will eventually be more of a combo guard but for now look for Gabe to get backup PG minutes next year and the year after. Unless of course something happens that forces the Celtics hands and they have to use him at the 2 due to injuries.

What about Rondo?  I'm pretty sure Rondo is intended to be our starting PG for years to come, born a celtic-retire a celtic type of player.

You can't really groom a player to be a backup to something, but you never know...it could work out that way.  I know that he played alot of PG in the D-League, but wasn't the selling point on this kid was that he can shoot the lights out?  So I personally seem him as our future starting SG and not PG once Ray is gone.

Don't get me wrong I think he could succeed at either position. But if they groom his PG skills he can be used as a back GUARD spelling Rondo and Allen and playing with both. He is a much different PG than Rondo is and would be a great change of pace type of guy the could come in handy. He is what Rondo isn't. He's tall, can post up, can guard the larger point guards and is a much more natural shooter with 3 point range already established.

If next year by the end of the season Rondo and Allen are averaging 36 MPG and Pruitt is picking up the last 24 minutes of the guard positions, I think it would be an ideal situation. At least for the next couple of year's that could be what the brass envisions and then when Allen is gone the Pruitt/Rondo backcourt could work much like the Dumars/Thomas backcourt of the late 80's.

Of course we could only hope and pray they could play as well as that backcourt.

Of course you can groom a guy as a backup. Look at all of our players who played in the d-league. Look at second round picks around the league.

Since Pruitt was drafted, the front office has said he sees the court well and can play the point. The front office seems to be pretty set in wanting him to play PG, and, as a player with little NBA game time, the  front office has a much better grasp of his skills than we have.

Pruitt is not on the playoff roster. Next year is next year. Now is now.

Pruitt is on the playoff roster. He's on the inactive list, but he could be activated up to an hour before any game. There are 15 players on the playoff roster; any 12 can be desgnated as active for any game. Pollard won't be activated because of his surgery, but Pruitt and/or Sacalbrine could be activated for any game, for instance if someone gets injured.

I have always thought that they are just looking to maximize his value.  I think they look at him as a future trade chip just as much as a future key part of this teams success.  If they can turn him into a quality PG rather than just another undersized 2 with good athleticism, even if it takes an extra year or two , then they will do it in hopes that he can help this team in the future whether through trade or on the court.

Last year = Boobie Gibson gets to the Nba Finals
This year = Stuckey He plays like this for the rest of his career hes a lock Hall Of famer
Why not What do we got to lose I know Cassell is a failure thats a given try it out if it works we found a gem if he sucks put him back on the bench Whats going on now is not working

I would bet dollars to donuts that Pruitt will not make the team next season.

Pruitt is barely a good NBDL player. He won't make our roster next year period. Even in the absolute garbage time he was getting at teh end of blowouts this season, he looked absolutely lost. He made poor turnovers, bad shot choice (shooting just to shoot) and bad decisions overall. I hate to say it, but Gabe will not be a successful PG or SG in this league.
Danny can't win 'em all.
As far as playing, I didn't care who guarded me - red, yellow, black. I just didn't want a white guy guarding me, because it's disrespect to my game.
