Ray Allen, Game 3

My issue was that both he and Pierce got so few shots during the middle of the game that would be considered easy.  Few shots created by other players for those two moving towards the hoop. 

They were taking what the defense was giving to them.  It was the ultimate "Ubuntu" game, because no one was "taking over", they were just moving the ball, and everyone was hitting their open shots and stepping up.  If the other guys stop hitting their shots again (or Detroit adjusts to not pressure Pierce and Allen so much), expect Pierce and Allen to start trying to take the game over a little more.

I don't mean taking over. 


It just seems that to many times, the shots created for those two were on the outside.   Not enough cuts for them without the ball. 

When they did cut, they were getting inside shots. 


Just want to see more of that (especially for Ray who really fed off that in game 2)

Its funny how Ray gets judged on this board anyway (and to a lesser extent Rondo and Perk) I was thinking maybe it was a lack familiarity but people are simply unreasonable.  Here are some of my favorites.

1)Ray is not the same player he was last year because he doesn't shoot 75% from 3 and 65% from the field even though he's forced to take more 3's but takes 3-5 less shots this season and shoots a higher percentage than he did last season.

2) Ray is useless unless he is scoring points and he might as well be on the bench because he's a defensive liability and Tony Allen's basketball IQ is through the roof and nobody scores when Tony is guarding them ask Rip Hamilton and Chauncey Billups.

3) Ray can have a 10/6/6 game but because he didn't score (that much) he had a subpar performance but Paul can have a  8/5/5 game and people here would say he did all the little things right and even though he didn't hit his shot he played well within the game. 

4) Ray scores 25 points in a losing effort where his effort is the only reason we had a chance to win         the game: No comment
   
Ray scores 9 points (including a timely dagger 3 pointer in a winning effort and plays good defense):  Ray is killing us!  We don't have a big 3 we have a big 2. Why did we trade for him?  Where is Wally Szerbiak!!

 

Mind you I could come up with more  Or do the same kind of list for Young Rondo (and Perk), but since this is a thread about Ray....

TP for you fairweatherfan, very unlike the nature of your name!! I think Ray has been playing great basketball (Garnett said the same before his mini breakout in game 2).  How about 5) Ray plays like he's 100 (even though he can get to the basket almost whenever he wants)
