Just curious if anyone else thought it was nice to hear someone giving the celtics some praise.

He had some killer comments and just flat out says it like it is.

my personal favorite was after the Rip Hamilton elbow on KG.

Someone said, "He's not that kind of player"

Van Gundy responds, "If he's not that kind of player why did he do that?"

I just really appreciated him showing up some of the mindless comments made by the other broadcasters.  Its nice to hear.

I like Van Gundy as a commentator.  Jackson's doing a great job too. Easily  the best national team we've seen in the playoffs.
Yup

I liked it when he flip flopped on Pierce's number being retired.  During the Spurs home game earlier this season he said Pierce had to do more to get his number in the rafters.  Last night he admitted he had said that and said he was dead wrong, Pierce's number will be retired with ease.  Most guys would just pretend they never said that, nevermind call themselves out.  JVG has no ego.  He's become my favorite national color analyst for any sport.

We've been quite lucky this playoffs with having the Jackson/Van Gundy/Breen team calling us for pretty much every game. They're great together, they are comfortable with each other, they call each other out when one makes a mistake or a moronic statement, they debate, they don't care about being politically correct or for protecting the NBA.  Jeff has turned to a bit of a Tommy in regards to the refs.  Although not as critical, he does point out the abundance of mistakes... I loved the "It's easy to get a layup when you take 3 steps" on LeBron, when everyone was complimenting him on how easy he got the basket.

I love JVG...He is hiliarious and will call out referees, players and coaches. I was laughing when they showed the clip of the Red Sox owners celebrating the Lester no hitter and Van Gundy was right behind them going nuts like his son was out there throwing the no hitter.

I'm just going to throw that out there... Jeff Van Gundy has surely improved on his commentaries in the bit he has been at it, and I think his personality has changed a bit too (might be mistaken).  Do any of you guys think this experience could make him a better coach, especially in regards to communication and player relationship?

I was pumped when I saw it would be JVG.  He doesn't try to be neutral or pro-refs.  He is just earnest which is all I could ask.

wow I like Mark Jackson and from his commentary I think the is going to make a really good coach in the league.  I like what he said about Rondo after Rondo made a stupid turn-over last night.  Jackson said he would take him aside and just tell him don't worry I got your back, your my guy I'm rewarding you with this chance to run the show now just reward me by playing sound basketball.

Jaskon is doing a solid job the whole crew is.

I've said it before, and I'll put it forth again: This broadcast team is second in basketball only to MSG's tandem of Breen and Walt Frazier.

Breen and JVG are absolutely great.  Whether or not you like Jax's analysis (for the most part, I'm no booster), he only adds to the chemistry and rapport the group has as a unit -- and there's something to be said for that.

Much as I wish this were the case, Budweiser, I still feel like the abominable Dick Stockton-Fratello (TNT) and Dan Shulman-Doris Burke (ESPN) teams have become waaaaaaay too large a part of my life this postseason.  Thankfully, ESPN/ABC has the exclusive rights to the East Finals and TNT the West, so it should be all Breen/JVG/Jax from here -- and in any potential future rounds as well (ABC takes over from there).

Completely with you, as I love Walt Frazier too... and I mentioned the unit in my post too. Regardless of how you feel about them as individuals, they make a great team simply because they debate, they call each other out, and genuinely seem to be having a good time with each other. Them rooting for Lester was awesome, if I may add.

Lol, true, but I think we've had the JVG team quite often, especially since the second round, and it seems, as you said, that the JVG team will be for the most part calling our games from here on out.

I have to give Jackson credit.  I guess he might be auditioning for a coaching job, but he did have great insight on the "if I was a coach, this is what I would do..." which is actually pretty insightful.  Most coaches turned commentators don't go into that perspective of the game enough, but I thought he brought up some good points about what he thought the coaches were doing wrong/right.

Plus, it was funny when he called out Van Gundy for going to the floor and grabbing his players' legs back in the day.
Baby Jesus!

I'm no Red Sox fan, but the baseball discussion in general was definitely a lot of fun.  From the pictures of the guys going to the game the night before to JVG talking about his admiration for baseball announcers (I think he cited Miller and Morgan in particular) -- fun stuff to listen to, good chemistry between them, succinct enough dialogue not to take away from the broadcast of the basketball game in front of them.  Just great stuff.

Yep, as long as we've got 'em from here on out, no complaints from me.

That Doris was buried in Secaucus for the lottery was just wonderful.  Although she did manage to make me uncomfortable even with her interviews of the lottery reps.  Ugh.  Go JVG!
