I like that Ray took it to the hoop this game.  I think if he continues to do that, he will get to the line and really hurt the Pistons.

His outside shot will return.

feeling good about Ray too....

He took a lot of heat for saying Rondo wasn't getting him the ball, but his biggest play tonight was that assist on the Rondo three down the stretch...

Ray is a pros pro and he is close to getting off the shnide...

i would never boo the guy but its becoming more and more apparent that something is wrong.  if we would have lost tonight, him not showing up AGAIN would be a major story.  it's time for a change.  doc needs to give him time each game to see if he can find his stroke.  if not, ray needs to watch from the bench.

No reason to boo Ray at all.  But he hasn't got the jump in his jumper, he's going to be a liability as our starting 2.  Maybe the best we can hope for is what we saw last night, with the team making a point to give him opportunities right at the hoop and Doc trimming his minutes.  Still, the 30% shooting (while demanding the ball!) is a killer.  Oh well, Rondo's matured quicker than we could have expected and PJ's got more in his tank than we thought, so maybe it close to balances out.

Hard to fathom this great of a shooter going this cold for this long.  The guy's a Hall of Fame level pure shooter and he can't hit the broad side of a barn?  Weird.

Last night his "man" Rondo was clearly making an effort to set him up nicely for open shots too.  Result: bubkas.

The place was just waiting to erupt if he could ONE bleepin' jumper.

Man, it would nice of he could heat up.
Yup

Ray 1st Quarter - 3 of 7, missed 3 long shots
Ray 2nd Quarter - NO SHOTS
Ray 3rd Quarter - 2 shots, 1 from deep, a miss
Ray 4th Quarter - 1 shot, a forced 9 footer that didn't go.

Can we stop saying this is a slump!  Maybe he's pressing, but it's the media and fans are all over him!  He took 4 ouside jumpers all night - FOUR!  But, 4 assists and 2 steals.  If this was the regular season, and were playing some stiffs like Memphis, we could let him take 20 shots to find a rhythm - but it's the playoffs, and he's find ways to still contribute even when he's not taking a lot of shots.  I feel like that kid in the Britnay Spears video: "LEAVE RAY ALLEN ALONE!"

I don't care if Ray doesn't make another shot this season as long as he keeps playing good defense and the Celtics keep winning.

That being said, I think he had a solid game yesterday.  He came out strong in the 1st quarter and made some nice drives and passes, then the offense just kind of drifted away from him and focused on Pierce and KG.  (I'm not complaining about it, because it was definitely working.)

When the Pistons scheme to stop that Pierce / KG high screen, Ray will be ready to take some of the scoring burden and we'll see a big game or two from him.  Until then, just keep up the strong D, and passing Ray.

I believe in Jesus.   :P

That said, I see some positive signs from the Globe article on him today.  He was playing pretty well yesterday and he himself says he felt like he had more rhythm, so there's hope yet.  Think about it this way: he led the Cs in scoring a couple of times in the Atlanta series, and that was only three weeks ago (I know it's felt like forever).  No one ages that fast.

Don't give up on him, oh ye of little faith!   ;D

Im definetely down with this thread...

this dumping on Ray Allen thing some Celts fans have done has gotten REAL tired REAL quick.....first of all, in the first round, Ray pretty much averaged what he averaged all year long...(I keep hearing people and media say he's been horrible for the whole playoffs.. NOT true).......   second of all, if anyone watched the Cleveland series they made it a HIGH PRIORITY to send 2 people at Ray every single game....he HAD to get rid of the ball...we have to  give Cleveland alot of credit....to me, it wasn't so much that Ray shot bad (which he did), but he didnt get many OPPURTUNITIES to shoot, and that was because of the Cavs D....he had no room or space or time to shoot most of that series....first game he took only 4 shots, and I remember 2 or 3 other games where he took less than 10...

Its not like he was going 4-16 or 3-13 in that Cleveland series...he wasnt getting shots...it was more like 2-7 or 1-6 type of games..... that leads to my 3rd point....when you have one of the best shooters of all times as your shooting guard, YOU HAVE TO DESIGN PLAYS TO GET HIM SHOTS and then GET HIM THE BALL......Celts did a bad job on both accounts vs. Cleveland....i put that mostly on Doc......run the guy off screens MULTIPLE screens if you have to!  set some picks!  look for him on the perimeter!   I didnt see this in cavs series....even Mark Jackson commented in one of the games that he couldnt believe how the Celts didnt look for Ray Allen more....

even though last night he still struggled  some, I saw signs of a return to form..I thought he was more aggressive to start....problem was once again as the game went on, he didnt get the looks (cant complain much because of the way the Truth and the Ticket were going)....

I STILL want Ray to take shots....keep shooting until you find a rhythm....the Celts have to make it a priority to run some stuff for him and look to get him the ball, though...

New day. New game. New optimism.

Awesome day to get out of a shooting funk.

Come on Ray.

I agree with all of this (TP) except that he didn't get looks in game 1 DET. they wen't out of thier way to get him looks, and by the third quarter he was passing them up. Even on that eddie house 3 at the end of the third, ray got it, hesitated, then passed it over to eddie when a defender got over.

I agree with this line by van gundy after he passed a ball back to rondo instead of taking a wide open 3.

"if im doc rivers, im saying to him, look i will never bench you for shooting, your one of the best shooters of all time. but if you EVER pass up an open look like that again, you'll be sitting for the rest of the quarter."

Ray has to shoot to get back in rythem, i belive he will, and tonight he will drop a couple 3's and get back on track

GO CELTICS AND GO RAY!

let it be known that i am now playing my traditional NBA2k8 game before the game, and will be activly trying to get ray out of his slump virtually.

i'll let you know how it goes.
