Stockton is brutal and I don't like Fratello either. Mike lacks insight and says way too many foolish things. Stockton is clueless.

Breen/JVG/Jackson are the best right now.

Marv is always good. Reggie lacks personality and insight.

Big fan of Kevin Harlan. Liked him ever since his days calling Wolves games.

I have to say that the Mike Torrico and Doris Burke team is scraping the bottom of the barrel.

And then there was Rick Carlisle also.

Mike Fratello is the exact opposite of an analysis.

I actually like Kevin Harlan a lot, he's got a nice voice, and a good feel for it.

The WORST announcer on the air right now is Doris Burke. Or as my buddies call her "Dorkis". She makes Mike Tirico look terrible, and I like Tirico, because he's a Syracuse guy.

Mike Breen/Mark Jackson are the top,
but MSG has Gus Johnson and Kenny Smith, that's pretty good.
I also like YES's Ian Eagle.

Gus Johnson really annoys me, but maybe it's just because I despise the Knicks lol...

Locally speaking, much as I hate the Knicks, their primary announcing team on MSG (Johnson and Smith only do several games a year) is my favorite in all of sports: Breen and Walt Frazier.  They make everything more enjoyable.  These guys could commentate on paint drying and I'd listen.

On a national note, I think Doris is being paired with Dan Shulman with some regularity these days...she did Game 3 against Atlanta...what a mess.  Thoroughly unenjoyable.  Granted, I should note that I wasn't rational because we were losing, but I'm not her biggest booster either.

I dislike almost everyone who's announcing the games this year.

Hate Reggie, Tirico, Doris, Carlisle, Shulman. Flat out hatred. Gotta say Reggie is currently in the best form of announcing career, he had two games recently where he didn't ruin the game for me. Well done Reg

Don't like Mike Breen or Marv Albert. They're dull, uninteresting and completely mediocre at their craft.

Mark Jackson wrecks my head but he's not too bad when JVG is their next to him. If Jeff wasn't there .... let's just say I'm hoping Mark gets a coaching job next season.

Fratello and Hubie are grand in small doses, even likeable. In large doses they bug me, this is only going to get worse as the playoffs go on.

Why can't they hire people who are good at their jobs?

Since you ripped on -- as you said -- nearly everyone doing the national broadcasts this year, who do you have in mind as someone who would be up to snuff?

I'm with you on a lot of the negativity, although you're aware of my love or the two play-by-play guys you ripped on, and I think you and I agree on JVG, Who.

Wow.

Does anyone notice how Stockton keeps referring to Posey as "Sam" Posey? It has happened a couple times during the postseason.

Steve-o, you thought Burke was that bad? I didn't mind her too much in comparison to say, Reggie Miller.

Soap,

I've never been Doris' biggest fan, but as I mentioned above, in fairness to her, my last qualm with her came in a game the Celts lost.  So I was predisposed to be irrational and angry.  Probably not fair.

I really don't mind Reg as much as most.

Funny that you mention Sam Posey -- have you checked out today's Daily Babble column by any chance?  It's called the "SamPosium" for exactly that reason  :D -- check out the Stockton reference if you get a chance.

I love the guys in Golden State, Seattle and Sacramento. Gorman and Tommy are fantastic too. There's a bunch of other solid folk around the league also. I like the guys for the Lakers, the old ex-Bull who's name I can't think of, Matt Goukas, Gus Johnson, a bunch of others. I like the guys down in Utah as well, Hot Rod Hundley. Quinn Buckner.

Stockton is over the hill, his time has come and gone, seems like the same with Fratello too at this point.  It is embarrassing to hear all the mistakes Stockton makes.

Breen, JVG and Jackson are knowledgeable and sometimes funny, but there was a noticeable bias especially in Game 7 for the Hawks.  I was at the game, but recorded it and watched it later.  It was as if they were at a different game than I was.  I realize that the Hawks as the 8 seed was a pretty compelling story nationally, but every single play was framed by Breen from the Hawks' perspective, seems he is not able to completely shed his NY bias when it comes to doing Celtics games.

For one example of many I heard, on the play where Cassell came up with a loose ball, and then Horford clearly took his legs out, even more clear on TV than it was in person when of course the Garden was in an uproar, Breen explained that Cassell was upset, but that he shouldn't be, that he had simply tripped/rolled over Horford, that Horford had not done anything to cause the contact.  Even as the Celtics were building a commanding lead, and should still be a story despite being taken to 7 games since they won 66 games, all 3 announcers kept having an ongoing discussion of how Atlanta's intensity was not up to par for a 7th game, what they needed to do to get back in the game, etc. NEVER mentioning anything about how well the Celtics were playing.

I know the Celtics were supposed to win, so I guess them stomping the Hawks was no big deal, but to not even talk about how well they were playing at all?  They kept the Hawks discussions going, even right through Celtics baskets, you rarely hear Gorman and Heinsohn, except in a meaningless game, keep talking over a current play in motion, even for the other team, Gorman usually announces what just happened.

Strange, I thought quite the opposite. I thought they were unnecessarily harsh on the Hawks. Jackson was asked by Breen if there was anything to build on for the Hawks in the future from this series. Jackson answered something to the effect of, "Before the game, I would've answered yes. But after watching this performance, no". It seemed that everybody was ignoring how incredible it was for the Hawks to push the C's to a 7th game. The blowout was status quo more than anything. Jackson even said the Hawks stopped competing.

Ya, I'm definitely remembering it closer to what Soap's saying.  Thought there was a lot of commentary by the analysts -- especially Jackson, as Soap says -- about how this team didn't bring it all in a Game 7 and how they really didn't come out with the proper intensity.  Jackson used the phrase "in a Game 7" about a trillion times, and nearly every one was used in a "the Hawks really don't have it right now" context.

Ultimately, KJ, while I think there might have been extra emphasis on discussing the Hawks overall, it's worth remembering what you said: They were the surprise here.  They pushed the 66-win boys (that we expected to be talking about for all of the rest of the playoffs) to seven games.  With the Celts going on for at least two more weeks and the Hawks clearly headed home very shortly into Game 7, I can't really kill the announcers for the decision to give the Hawks some final air time.
