Man ... we dodged a bullet tonight ... thank goodness the Cavs were horrible, too, and LeBron was actually a detriment to them tonight, (how often can we say that?). Pierce was disgusting, Ray was a non-factor, and the offense was incredibly sloppy. That said, I think we match-up better with the Cavs, and that we have a better chance of sweeping them than we did Atlanta.

Who - Ray Allen has to get OPEN...the guy is moving slow out there.  i mean, it's pretty sad when wally can hang with him.  face it, he's showing his age, and i believe the season is catching up to him.

we need to face the facts on ray allen - he's an aging player that is on the downside of his career - we've watched him get older before our very eyes this season.

he was open alot tonight and bricked, at some point doc (smartly, and to his credit) realized that the screens weren't working and went to KG, and pretty much just had ray play defense on wally, which he did well.

I dont really think we dodged a bullet we played great, great defense all night. should we have won by more? you bet, offense was bad from our 2/3 of our main scorers, but i would be my car that pierce and ray ray wont go for only 4 points again.

you can say the same for cleveland, but i think our defense was better tonight, though they played tough D as well.

And i just don't see our offense sputtering in consecutive games, meanwhile i think our D on lebron, while its unrealistic to expect him to stay as cold as he was, will be more than enough to hold the cavs in the low 80's whgile were in the high 90's most games.

I commented this in another thread, and I agree with you. I'd be disappointed if we don't sweep the Cavs.

Pierce was bad but I gotta give him credit for that great defensive stop with a tie game under a minute left where it was basically Lebron taking it to Pierce with no help and he forced Lebron into a tough, wild scoop lay-up. That was on the play that Cassell got the rebound and put us on top with free throws. Other than that Posey was the man on D.

we need to face the facts on ray allen - he's an aging player that is on the downside of his career - we've watched him get older before our very eyes this season.

Wally wasn't hanging with him. Ray got daylight whenever he ran Wally through a screen off the ball. His teammates stopped setting screens for him and didn't look for him enough when he did get a screen.

His teammates have to give him better service. That's the biggest problem. They don't do that and this can become a series long issue.

he was open alot tonight and bricked, at some point doc (smartly, and to his credit) realized that the screens weren't working and went to KG, and pretty much just had ray play defense on wally, which he did well.
He got four shots for the entire game. FOUR!!!

This is Ray Allen. One of the best shooters in the league. All-Star. Scored 17ppg this season. Averaged over 20ppg for years.

You don't stop passing him the ball when he misses four shots.

They didn't go away from him when he was missing. His only got one shot in the entire second half and that wasn't even off a play/screen, it was in the third quarter, from the right wing in the halfcourt, no movement, his defender was just playing weak defense so he took the shot in his face.

Four shots

Terrible recognition by his teammates and his coach

this is just silly.

not only will Ray prove this to be wrong in upcoming games, i think he will be better next year than he was this year.

we all know that Ray is a creature of habit and works off a rhythm and he has not yet found it in the playoffs.

he has been a workhorse for us this year and i find it disheartening how quickly people are willing to throw the guy under the bus...

We beat the Cavs in a game playing the way they wanted to play. We beat them at there own game. If we can play more of our game through the series we will have no problem. Good team win, again. Go Celtics!

We did dodge a bullet ... the Cavs could have easily stolen this game from us, and didn't only because of our great defense, and the fact that they played offense as terribly as we did. We really didn't dig in on the offensvie end, and in a game where we should have blown the other team out, we barely sqweaked out a win. We dodged a bullet indeed!

not throwing him under the bus...he's just too slow to get out of in front of the bus... :)

Absolutely Bakhu, the Celtics dodged a bullet here.

They almost lost home court tonight.

This is exactly the type of game that Cleveland. The Celtics only scored four points in 6+ minutes at one point in the fourth quarter. Heck, Cleveland had the lead with two minutes to play. LeBron James had a point blank layup roll off the rim that would have tied the game and sent it to overtime.

Celtics dodged the bullet.

Well, the way PP and Ray were shooting that was not going to be a blowout. C's still won without them contributing offensively. I'll take it, PP and Ray can only get better and they will need to be because Lebron isn't likely to have bad games very often either.

You're right, Edgar ... and while I meant everyone when I said that good defense won this game, I should have specified that I was only complaining about Pierce on the offensive end ... defense by almost everyone was huge, including Truth. A win is a win, but this was an ugly one ... and we were a bit lucky to dodge this bullet. Thank goodness the one thing that got us this far, was the one thing that saved us tonight: defense.
