I don't think Doc Rivers could have properly prepared the team for game three or game four for that matter. It's impossible to think that he did.

If you are up 2-0 and if you are truly serious about winning a championship, it that is what you say you want, how can you not go into game three, having a 2-0 edge and not come out with game seven intensity? How is that possible?

If you are truly serious about wanting to win a championship, you absolutely have to want to kick the other team when they are down and kick them extremely hard. I didn't see it.

What I saw in games three and four was a half hearted effort on the floor and a coach who was emotionless on the sidelines, standing there like a deer in the headlights.

Not what you want.

It's the playoffs, it's ok to get angry and go off on your players and wake them [] up.

It's also understandable for the players to maybe get lax, I understand it's not unusual. But that is where a great coach comes in slaps the crap out of them, instantly, and gets them back on track.

When they blew that first quarter lead in the first, instead of passively standing over there on the sideline doing nothing, watching the lead evaporate in minutes, Doc should have called a timeout while they were still up by 10 and been so far up their back sides he could have been yelling at their faces but they'd swear he was behind them.

Therefore, tonight is game seven to me.

I want to see bodies flying, heads rolling. I want people on the floor. I want blood and guts.

I want execution. I want defense. I want to see a team that is collectively furious when the Hawks get an offesnive rebound over there heads. I want to see some aggression and focus.

I want to see bodies flying and heads rolling.

Unless, of course, Doc Rivers and the celtics arent' really serious about winning an NBA title. Unless they've just been joking all season.

No masked profanity please...That was a pretty flagrant one.  Thanks, Redz

I'd settle for a full game of celtics defense, which i haven't seen in the last 2 games.

Also, i wonder if we will be allowed to play celtics defense. While it has certainly been lacking the last 2 games, its hard to play good defense when handchecks and phantom touching are fouls.

here's hoping the refs swallow there wistles on the ticky tack stuff.

I fully agree with you. Tonight we find out which players on this team are true championship caliber players and which players fall into the vince carter category. Larry Bird always came out with that type of attitude in the playoffs. You have to kill your opponent when they are weak, you have to want every rebound, every loose ball, and especially every freethrow. You have to go 150% all game, you have to get angry when any little thing doesn't go your way, and you have to do it all with a cool, clear, focus. Bird, Russell, Tommy, Cowens, etc, all did this. Now it's time to see who can do it on the current team. We need true leaders to step upp and lead by example in every facet of the game, not by ball hogging and sulking, or by celebrating after one good play.

Well spoken!  Bur Crownsy's right too -- the refs need to back off a bit and let these guys play.  Maybe with the home crowd putting the pressure on we'll get a bit more leeway...

In any case, let's get ready for a bloodbath!

I agree guys and especially with what hpantazo said about how tonight we will find out who are true championship caliber players and who are just Vince Carters.

To me, championship players have a kind of cool, collected but extremely agrressive and focused ferocity to them. And they don't just want to beat you, they want to humiliate you, crush you, bury you and kick you as hard as they can in the face when your down. And it's not because they're bad people folks, it's because they understand that every time they have that opportunity and they don't do it, they are giving you life and therefore creating a possiblity for their own failure.

And when I say "kick you in the face when you're down" I don't mean they mock you or taunt you. I mean when they have a 10 point lead, they want it to be 20 and when it's 20 points they want it to be 30 points.

They do it with ruthless and focused performance and they don't let up until the fourth quarter buzzer sounds.

That is the mark of a team with a shot at a championship.

I want to see it tonight and then I want to see a 20 point win in Atlanta in game 6.

Then I'll know this team is serious about wanting to win a championhsip.

I want emotion, I want intensity. I want people taking it to the rack. I don't care if Josh Smith had blocked 10 shots in the fisrt quarter I'd go back in at him with the specific intent of pump faking him and getting him about 3 feet off the ground and then as he's coming down I'd drive my shoulder just as hard as possibly could into his chest as I'm jumping up.

Make him think about getting off the ground again trying to block another one of my shots. You think Bird would worry about Josh Smith. He'd do exactly what I just said. He'd get him in the air and then try to flip roll him over his back on the up jump. Teach him to try and block another shot. And guess what, Smith would start hesitating. The you own him, he doesn't know if he's coming or going anymore.

We are the aggressor, not them.

I'm going to be the contrarian here by saying that I think the C's actually gave a very strong effort.  Especially in game 4.  There was just a slew of things that went against them which derailed their execution throughout the game.

Completely Agree. Their effort was good, their execution was lousy.

I don't know, I have to disagree here. Every time they got up by 8-10 points they relaxed instead of trying to put the Hawks away. There were also a number of times when they didn't get back on defense after making nice offensive plays, and the hawks took advantage. The team defense lacked effort, especially when Joe Johnson took over, guys didn't rotate fast enough to help out Ray when he was picked off, and on offense they didn't take it to the hope nearly enough. That is not the type of effort that gets it done in the playoffs. Another big issue is that they let the hawks get in their heads and they lost focus. If they can't handle pressure against atlanta they are not going to be able to do it against the pistons or spurs.

Well, I got my wish last night. In a sense their were some Bodies flying and some heads rolling.

I will say this though, the kind of intensity I was hoping for and hpantazo was talking about re Bird, Russell, Cownens and how it should be an all out 48 minute effort and just watning to crush the other team and kick them when they are down.

I felt that most of the game we played with that intensity.

However, I thought that the way we came out in the beginning of the second half was kind of half hearted and lackadaisical and it immediately lead to a little 7 point run by the Hawks.

I think and maybe I'm asking for the impossible...but I fell like a team that is truly serious about wanting to win a championhsip should come out angry with itself that the lead is on 15 points at the half. They should come out guns balzing and with the goal to be a 30 point lead by the end of the third, just wanting to annihilate the team when they have them on the edge.

What I saw was kind of ho-hum and I think that is not the right attitude to have.

I'm very happy with the win and liked what I saw for sure, but I still think a team chasing a championship shouldn't be satisfied with a 15 point lead and take a "this one's in the bag attitude".

I totally agree with you Scooby and I think the best way for the C's to remedy that is to split the game mentally into 4 parts. By that I mean reset the score in your mind to 0-0 at the start of each quarter so your mind is more concerned into winning every quarter instead of playing depending on what the overall score is.  What do you think??

There were maybe a handful of times I yelled at the TV last night (way down from games 3 & 4  :) ).  All but one of them was directed towards some sort of injustice I felt the Celts had been handed by the refs.  The other one was during this run when Josh Smith was allowed to go unmolested for a dunk.  This was absolutely the time for a "playoffs rule" no gimme foul.  They're almost expected in the playoffs.  The player should EXPECT to get fouled in that situation.

BUT...It was just one play, during one small lull for the Celtics - which was quelled quickly by KG taking one strong to the hoop and Ray going nuts from 3 point land.
Yup
