If it were my choice I'd give it to Pop. 56 wins in that conference shouldn't be ignored, he dealt with major injuries all season long, added new (and old) pieces to the mix, endured some about to retire ones, and he once has the Spurs playing at their expected summertime level. I don't know when the COY award became the top 3 turnaround in wins award but this one's even more stupid than MIP, the feel good story of the year, so what?
Scott and Mitchell won the award because they had young teams raising their levels of play and kids turning into solid NBA players with the right STAFF to compliment it. The Rapts got the 1st pick overall and TJ Ford and Calderon and Tony Parker that offseason, Hornets got Peja and Mo Pete. The Spurs just got a year older.
Scott did have a great year but I'd give him the award if he can do it for two years in a row. Pop does it every year, this one should have to be earned and seasoned just like the MVP.
